On Thursday, June 23, the Kennedy Institute, John & Pat Hume Foundation, and the Consulate General of Ireland in Boston hosted a conversation commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first meeting between Senator Edward M. Kennedy and John Hume, and its profound impact on finding a path to peace in Northern Ireland. The event featured a panel of ambassadors and elected officials, and explored how the legacy of this powerful relationship still resonates today.
Moderated by Dr. Catherine Shannon, the panel featured Ambassador Daniel Mulhall, Ambassador of Ireland to the United States; Ambassador Nancy Soderberg, former United States representative to the United Nations; Dr. Sean Farren, Chair of the John & Pat Hume Foundation for Peaceful Change and Reconciliation; Aidan Hume, son of the late John Hume, Nobel Peace Laureate; and Congressman Joe Kennedy III, Board member of the Kennedy Institute.
