A singular performance. Goosebumps to go. This is what you’d to aspire to as a co-soloist. They were one well synced machine. Otherworldly talent on that stage.

I attended this event in Indianapolis. I wish you all could see, hear the interplay with the performers and the audience. This level of Jazz performance stirs the soul! You can truly "feel" it.

Magnificent song interpreted by a great singer that I appreciate (good groove and amplitude in the bass) and a superb young pianist with a bright future...... How intelligent in her piano playing, a treat!!!! Magnifique chanson interprétée par un grand chanteur que j'apprécie (bon groove et amplitude dans le grave) et un superbe jeune pianiste à l'avenir radieux...... The opening 25 seconds sound like the soundtrack from a 90s family drama film! Fascinating. Killer playing and great singing. Love how Kenny nods at the end

5:16 Mr Elling knocks down 12-tone equal temperament in the most jazz way ever.

Wish I knew what that meant, but heavens to Betsy, I wish I could write a song in "vocalese" and have a perfect accompanist like this. Seems like you'd need a degree in physics, it's so remarkably complicated and lush at the same time.

@@jazzyjeph4143 Hi there! I think you misunderstood what I said. I wasn’t inferring to how he articulates the notes (legato, Staccato etc) but rather to the note pitches he sings that don’t exist in the western 12-tone temperament. These are additional notes used in eastern music which further divide a semitone known as microtones. Going from C to D you pass the semitone C#/Db but in eastern music you can add 2-4 additional notes for example between C and D instead of just the C#/Db.

@@jazzyjeph4143 I didn’t suggest he was thinking what he was singing. I would say he was instead improvising some expressions and in these improvisations he beautiful sung notes that don’t exist in the 12-tone temperament.

Can you believe he didn't win? The guy that won was technically very skilled - but sounds robotic, lacking any soul, when compared to this heart felt performance by Banks Jr. Love it.
