This feels like a gut punch to the original trilogy when even in legends Obiwan never saw him. I may not love the original trilogy as much as some other people but there are no stakes. There is no payoff from this because it takes away from both their prequel fight and original trilogy fight. The best description of the original fight was the fan made remake of original trilogy fight where everything is definitely clear. I don't mind some of the plot of this show but when you decide to throw logic out the window for fan service to just pull in more money. Now to deal with your point about the vision in clone wars that was always a plan to get his next apprentice ready by manipulating those around him. Now in Canon it has been known to us that Palpatine has shown disdain for Vader's obsession with Obiwan after some time

First off, if we compare where Vader and Obi-Wan leave off in ROTS and what they say about each other before their encounter in ANH, absolutely none of it lines up with what happened on Mustafar. In fact, it makes more sense that they DO meet up once and that Obi-Wan is thought to be dead. A few lines in ANH make them meeting up again abundantly clear; - “when I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master.” I’m sorry but when in ROTS did Anakin leave Obi-Wan? I wonder if maybe Vader left Obi-Wan for dead after a second duel? - “Surely he must be dead by now.” Tarkin seems to doubt Vader when he’s told that Obi-Wan is alive and on the Death Star. Wonder why that could be? Maybe because Vader thought he killed him in a previous encounter? And one other line in ROTJ that was already talked about: - “Obi-Wan once thought as you do.” But in ROTS, Obi-Wan went to Mustafar with orders to KILL Anakin. He didn’t try to reason with him to any extent. Obi-Wan beats Anakin and then literally leaves him for dead, thinking he killed his former friend. He declines telling Padmé that he killed Anakin when she says “I know there’s still good in him.” So at this point he feels guilty for not even trying to save Anakin. My theory is that taking all of this into consideration, in this show we see Obi-Wan hear of a “Lord Vader” for the first time in 10 years, and panics much like he did back in legends continuity. He’s gonna pull it together and he’s either going to be luring Vader (who’s on Obi-Wan’s trail) to an alternate location to keep him from finding Luke, OR he’s going to seek Vader out to face his guilt that he didn’t try to save Anakin the first time, and will try to save him this time, only to find that Vader’s hatred of him has only grown exponentially and we see Obi-Wan get his ass kicked so bad that Vader believes he’s dead, and leaves the premises. This way we get 1) Vader actually leaving Obi-Wan. 2) Obi-Wan trying to redeem Vader, letting us know why he would encourage Luke to kill his own father later on. 3) a reason for Vader and Tarkin to be surprised that Obi-Wan IS alive and on the Death Star. Just like that, Vader and Obi-Wan dueling again actually cleans up the continuity between the two characters between their two canonical duels. Vader and Obi-Wan dueling again won’t break continuity at all.

I don’t actually know about that. Here’s how I see it: (summed up bc I don’t have much time to type lol) Obi-Wan’s been STUCK for a longass time now, (Maybe he starts to go a bit crazy at times) wondering if this is all really worth it, if it means anything, if his exile is actually going anywhere. His reunion with Vader makes him remember he still has a job to do. It’s not the end just yet. But at the same time, it could remind him of why he hates fighting, why he hates war, why he wants it to end, and most importantly, why he hates flying lol

@@whythatspreposterous I see what you’re getting at, but keep in mind that the Empire didn’t have much of a presence on Tatooine in the Original Trilogy, except for when R2 and 3PO were on the loose with the Death Star plans. In this regard, I think Obi-Wan maybe not finding out that Anakin is alive (or just not acting on it) until he hears word from an Inquisitor of a “Lord Vader” or gets Inquisitors hunting him that he leaves planet to find Vader/Anakin. Something like this could easily take maybe ten years for the information to circulate to a hermit on a backwater planet like Tatooine

coming 3 months later, I can confidently say they don't seem to be doing it for spectacle but for the sake of Obi Wan's development and rationalizing how he feels about Vader by the time of ESB (why he doesn't believe he can be redeemed), the first encounter was surprisingly non spectacular. Now whether or not that decision is a good one of that it will improve Obi Wan's character and stuff remains to be seen, but its quite clear this is being used as a means to explore and elaborate on Obi Wan's outlook further.

You know what, I remember when many people pointed out the continuity mistakes between the prequels and originals when the prequel films came out, like Obiwan being trained by Yoda as said in the ot but he was trained by qui gon in the pt, padme Remembers her mother, but she died literally a few seconds after her birth, like even George the creator danced around the continuity in order to tell the story he wanted, and even with the OBIWAN Vader last encounter he there were some mistakes, even the line from return of the Jedi “OBIWAN once thought as you do” when exactly? Wasn’t in the prequels I’m saying I’m willing to give them some slack cause seems many people now that the prequels are respected a bit more overlook the continuity errors of those films, so with the kenobi show if they can retcon and change our perception of things without fully breaking continuity I’m fine, George Retconned sight things in the prequels so I’m fine doing it here if done right and in service of the story
@ariesroc

Nice sentiment but there is a major difference between what the creator of Star Wars does with his own story as opposed to what other people who have shown time and time again no regard for that story. Besides these supposed "continuity mistakes" you point out are ones created by other people because they didn't like the answers Lucas gave to them. Obi-Wan was trained by Yoda as Yoda trained everyone at one point as younglings. Leia remembers Padme, like people forget that she carried the twins for months. Somehow Luke and Leia didn't exist before they were born? The "Obi-Wan once thought as you do." is in the prequels but it's Padme who still thinks there is good in him and she tells Obi-Wan. It's Vader who says the line not Obi-Wan. I don't know why people take everything Vader says at face value like somehow he isn't a manipulative Sith who plays around with the truth. I guess the same people take everything Palpatine says as true?

When Vader makes that quote imo he means that he was a learner of the dark side and now he's a sith lord , a dark side master. Also I believe there won't actually be a rematch. I belive their duels will happen in flashbacks to mustafar and force visions forshadowing their duel in ANH but obviously reshot for the show. Technically it's happening in the show but in star wars it's just a force vision albeit very detailed. They can't retcon the original trilogy , they just can't. But I'm sure they'll make it work and work well with force dreams and force visions.

I think when Vader said that he meant it as in when he left Kenobi and the Jedi as a whole. Not that he physically left him. Vader suspected Obi Wan to still be alive at the time of Rebels as per his conversation with Palpatine in that show, so if the two of them do have a proper fight that isn't a vision or anything then I'd expect it to most likely end with Obi Wan having to flee.

Wrong. Vader and Kenobi could both get drunk and while they are fighting each other in disguise they forgot about everything they did the previous night. Jar JAr start a lightsaber duel contest. And that is what gets Vader and Kenobi to go to the competition in hopes of finding out how many threat still exist to the jedi. It's a way for the Sith to capture new talent. I think Star Wars is pretty much doomed because it is all going to lead up to the sequel trilogy so I really could not care less now. Luke will be a loser, Rey will have used her "Force Leech" special ability to leech powers from all force wielders to make herself the strongest jedi of all time, and Grogu will kill Luke Skywalker for the Mandolorians and hand his lightsaber to the orange female yoda a a trophy. May as well start all over again and remake the whole star wars franchise now. (similar to how remakes are done of all the other major movie franchises - let some new young talent take over from where Lucas left off)

My own theory for a good way for it to happen: Yoda had training for Obi-Wan at the end of ROTS - why not have Obi-Wan visit Yoda on Dagobah and visit the Dark Side cave? Obi-Wan has a similar confrontation with Anakin-Vader (how he remembers Vader, not the mech suit - then the look of revulsion & surprise in ANH on the Death Star at the sight of Mech Vader is intact), but with more of a prequel feel/intensity. "General Kenobi" - hero of the Clone Wars - learns to NOT fight, instead trying to correct his ROTS "folly" and try to win Anakin back (like Luke in ROTJ - giving strength to "Obi-Wan has taught you well" in that duel), and that he actually lets Vader strike him down. Obi-Wan then gets a taste of what is like to die, yet remain, and is able to have a (perhaps tearful) reunion with Qui-Gon, who reassures Obi-Wan that Anakin's fall wasn't his fault, and to trust that The Force can make everything right thru Luke, but leaving it ambiguous enough that Obi-Wan still thinks Luke must kill his own father to do it. The cave encounter is so intense that we see Vader drawn into it while meditating in Hell on Mustafar, and for him it ends when he has killed his old master. This backs up the smug confidence he has on the Death Star in ANH and his certainty of winning before they even start dueling - he has foreseen his triumph. It renews his hatred for his old master, pushing him deeper into the Dark Side, reinforcing the sense that Anakin "is truly dead." Obi-Wan then goes back to Tatooine, determined with the intention of beginning Luke's training, wanting to give him Anakin's saber, and this is where Owen chases him off the farm, perhaps threatening to tell the Empire about him if he ever returns. This series ends with a strong Force music theme while Obi-Wan looks past Owen at young Luke - the same age that Anakin was when Obi-Wan began to train him - framed by the binary sunset and (fore)shadowing on the boy's face, an indication that Luke may end up as Anakin did if he isn't VERY careful.

It’s obvious that they prioritized fan service more than telling a compelling, original story. For example, I was excited to see the seismic bomb make its return in Mando Season 2, but I also knew that was a purely fan service move. When I saw them doing it again in BoB, I rolled my eyes.

@@gbrow1604 The thing is, I loved Mando Season 2 and it’s fan service moments because it actually served the plot. Bo-Katan’s return? Mando was looking for other Mandalorian who could point him to the Jedi. Ahsoka’s return? She’s the Jedi in question. Boba Fett’s return? Legendary Star Wars figure and an appropriate addition to a show called “the Mandalorian.” There’s many more, but I think you catch my drift. In BoB, the fan service moments were just that: fan service. The most egregious example was the return of Cad Bane. He had absolutely zero connection with Boba except for one throwaway line. To anyone who hasn’t seen the Clone Wars, one would assume that Bane was just some random bounty Hunter hired by the Pikes who happened to have some beef with Boba back in the day. They brought back Cad Bane specifically so that Clone Wars fans would go “holy shit, it’s Cad Bane!!” It’s perfectly alright for you to not be a fan of the fan service in Mando season 2. I completely understand. It should be noted that there are instances where fan service is done right, and where it isn’t. BoB was the latter.

Even if it doesn’t directly contradict lines in A New Hope, I just don’t see the point in trying to add too much more to the story between the two. It was already fine as it was. Obi-Wan had his entire order destroyed, lost his closest friend to the dark side, had to go into hiding, yet he still remained hopeful and went on to mentor the boy who would take down the empire. I can’t see how trying to make a “rematch if the century” would do anything but hurt his story. Just make a well written character study. Unfortunately, the way Ewan was talking about it means it’s likely going to happen.
@ultimate8550

@@EpicTrev7 That is my theory as well. I think their rematch or meeting might be under a very different context than the one presented in the video. Part of the reason Anakin fell to the dark side was because Palpatine promised him that he alone could save Padme from dying. Of course, that was a massive lie. But what would Vader do if he suddenly found out that his old master was learning to commune with the dead( Obi-Wan learning to communicate with Qui-Gon)? Could that possibly create a situation where Anakin temporarily resurfaces and actually trains with Obi-Wan for a bit, in order to try and contact Padme? Of course, eventually something would happen that ultimately burns that bridge forever and makes Obi-Wan believe he is irredeemable, as seen in the original trilogy.
@CometStar100

It really wasn't fine how it was. Well to me it's not. Firstly where is the part where Obi-Wan feels Anakin is unredeemable and he feels like Vader is more machine then man now like the line says in episode 6. The way they reunite in 4 is so cold which seems out of character for both of them. Their fight in episode 4 should of been more emotion if that was their first time seeing each other since Revenge of the Sith. I always wanted to see them fight each other between 3 and 4 cause the lines in the OT just don't match with what we saw in the PT. Theres no way in the span of one fight Kenobi just feels Anakin is pure evil. Something like that train of thought takes another duel. I can't imagine Kenobi not even trying to convince Vader to turn back to the light if that was their second duel ever. I think it's good we see their first and last fights in the movies but it does make sense to me if they did fight again before A New Hope at least once.

"Obi-Wan once thought as you do" does open up a possibility that Obi-Wan tries to turn Anakin back to the Light side and turn him against the Emperor at some point after ROTS. Maybe Vader wins the rematch in a way that makes him unsure if Obi-Wan survived the encounter. Sensing his presence in ANH would make Vader realize that Obi-Wan did indeed survive. Wouldn't completely explain the whole "when I left you I was but the learner, but now I'm the master" part, though. Unless Vader is referring to being a Sith learner/master, but that would make him a slow learner. Then again, they could just make Obi-Wan taunt Anakin for not being a master, but only a learner during the rematch.

@@TheRojam12 a fair assessment but at a certain point I’d rather they just not touch the OT considering how they couldn’t get Han right in Solo, Luke in TLJ, and Boba in “his show”. I don’t trust them to write anymore because Luke in Boba’s show isn’t even consistent yet. He went to save his friends from Vader can Empire strikes back even though classic prequel era Jedi are not supposed to have attachments and he tried relentlessly to save his father from the dark side so it seems really weird that he would make baby Yoda make that choice. They forget that there is 25 years from The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian to the sequel trilogy. In 25 years Luke can slowly turn into that kind of Jedi but I don’t believe he would’ve changed drastically in only five years. Plus I’m really not excited for it considering Kathleen Kennedy herself said that the fight is going to be exciting and she has a track record of being wrong in my eyes. That does not mean we can not have an encounter in the lines with what you suggested thou. Obi can still belive he has the power to turn Vader from the darkside only to realize that Vader is "more machine than human now" and it could be done if Obi feels his best way to protect Luke and or Leia is to duel Vader in order to draw him away from any of them. It could also play out that diverts from his mission to protect either Luke or Leia in order to face Vacer again leaving him with guilt feelings when he finds out what Vader is now and how impossible it is for Anakin to come back. It might also be a reason to why Tarkin think "Sure he must be dead by now" if Vader leaves Obi in a position where he expect Obi to die sooner rather than later. I do belive this fight must be the climatic scene of the last chapter in this series thou since its so anticipated by the fans. In order for it to work it has be built up dramatically and if not late in the show it wll kill all the suspence for many fans who are looking forward to this fight only. Johan.

What I think should happen is this: Obi Wan senses Yoda's presence along with Qui Gon's ghost, and also that Ashoka is alive. So with this knowledge, he leaves Tatooine with Ashoka keeping guard over young Luke, and makes his way to Dagobah to become one with the force. Then the rest of the show could be like the arc in TCW, and goes through the same process Yoda goes through. And the final step in the process is that he must let go of his trauma and guilt over Anakin's turn, and how he does that is by confronting Vader in a vision where they duel.
