My favorite part of this video was definitely you discussing why you're taking out Thassa's Oracle and Jace, Wielder of Mysteries. I watch enough cEDH gameplay to know how absolutely potent these cards are, but I totally get your reason for taking them out of the average deck. If you have INFINITE MANA and your entire deck in your hand why would you waste two slots in your deck for cards that give you value only when you're in that winning position.. you can can make infinitely big mana dorks with trample and haste, frankly it's a lot cooler way to win than decking yourself. Thanks for the great video, and I cant wait for the next podcast Friday!

My favorite part of the video as well, as it not only applies to this particular deck, you can use this mindset to cut out some redundant pieces which you mistakenly see as "wincons".

Bought a Kenrith about 5 months ago and never really had a clear path on to how I would like his deck to be. This video has helped me a lot as I wanted to run away from the cEDH/Combo focused builds. Really appreciate your content ❤️

I recently built a Kenrith deck, and I've used this video and Mitch from CQ as great bases to jump off from. I love Kenrith and how versatile he is, and in the few games I've played with him it never felt like I had nothing I could do.

I'd love to see a list on Alela! She seems like she'd have an interesting average, given the split between enchantments, artifacts, and fairy/flying tribal, so it'd be interesting to see how you adjust that into a strategy!

I'm putting together a Kenrith Ur-Dragon deck and slowly grabbing the cards every paycheck. This will be the first ever deck I'm manually building card for card (been trying friends decks and using prebuilts) and I'm excited to give it a try once I get everything I need. Videos like this are incredibly helpful.

I started do the same thing about 3 months ago...long story short I stopped after play test with proxies. Even in my high powered pod. My ~$200 Ur Dragon was simply too much value turn after turn. So I swapped in Sisay, Weatherlight captain. Still too much. Kenerith is where it's at now. But it still simply pops off with value. My best advice is playing Kenrith as a political tool and build purely around him. Monarch, goad, and wheel mechanics. I only play the "share tutors" scheming symmetry in exchange for "Kings Favors. Like Reanimating someone's creature. [Only to goad them with haste. Hehehehe]]

Once you have the infinite mana combo, instead of milling yourself, you can mill your opponents! I did that in a 6 player game with my Seedborn Muse out, drew till I hit the cards I needed(Incubation Druid was on the field with a counter on it, needed Vigean Graftmage). Your opponents can't respond with an instant or smth either because the stack will be filled with Kenrith's infinite "Draw your deck +1, peasant" orders!

Have you thought about taking a general from a precon deck and doing an episode to perhaps counteract the 'precon effect' in lists which suffer from egregious examples of it?
@alexanderforbes1452
@alexanderforbes1452 4 жыл бұрын
Kenrith's obvious road to victory is just make infinite or at least a lot of mana, but he CAN be pretty much anything you want, which is why I like him so much. The Kenrith deck I've been brewing in my head for awhile is a five colour combat forcing deck. Throw in all the commanders like Thantis, Marisi, etc, cards that let me control combat and force people to swing in every turn with all their creatures. Cards like Ghostly Prison and Propaganda keep me from getting hit while creatures are flying left and right, while everyone's shield are down I swing in and get benefits with cards like Marchesa. Maybe throw in monarch cards, the curses, and the impetus cards just for fun and flavor, if there's room. Kynaios and Tiro, Nekusar and other parts from that deck keeps my opponents drawing cards so they can keep the ball rolling and the creatures attacking. While they draw they slowly kill themselves, this is icing on the cake if there are a lot of creatures but if there aren't then this can become a win con in a pinch. My thought is Kenrith gives everything haste every turn, he can pump things when needed for political gain, he can return other player's creatures so they can keep swinging in at everyone but me, I can even give people cards if the situation calls for it. I don't imagine it would actually be that powerful, it's probably too unfocused, but I think if it works even sort of how I imagine it will make for fun games.

I would love your opinion on Xyris- I go back and forth so much on the hug cards in average lists (howling mine, rites of flourishing) and every time I play them if Xyris gets killed a couple times they seem like they’re just liabilities and you’re giving opponents cards for no reason. Especially if your backup commanders are the locust god or Niv Parun since they only care about you drawing cards

Anyone playing Kenrith should consider Composite golem. With any activated ability cost reducers aka zirda, training grounds, or heartstone (cards already incredible in this deck) it creates infinite mana of all colors except black using kenriths reanimate ability to sac and reanimate composite golem. Yeah, so, the entire doctrine I won't release here but as far as the land base cost and desire for as much mana as possible with as little destruction risk run every single search library basic land battlefield card you can find. As he said, you can go overboard, so do it but not with mana rocks or dorks, they are vulnerable, basic lands are not and mulligan requirements at that point pretty much mean 2 mana 1 green and you're good. Mana base just got cheaper, source of ramp got more resilient and color sources more consistent

One card i do recommend (yes it's a wheel) is Emergency Powers. WHile a tad expensive, it acts as fantastic leverage in the mid-to-late game as it can instant speed reset an opponent's empty library with a oracle trigger on the stack, and you get some extra good stuff from casting it during one of your main phases, because you can put a seedborn muse or wild rec. into play, amongst other things

When you think of how expensive this version of the deck is then you consider that the cards you cut are moor expensive than the entire deck lands included. I would've liked to have seen some land cultivating, speaking of which I don't think I even saw basics in your list so you might want to think about that (like for cultivate) and maybe something that gives you flash lol. Great deck and video I greatly enjoyed it

5 color mana base can get really expensive depending on how much you want to spend. A single dual land from unlimited can cost almost $400. You can do 5 colors on a budget but if you’re trying to get the best land possible 5 colors is going to be more expensive than any decks that have less colors.
@pro711200

@@pro711200 are you kidding me? Just looked up all these prices on TCGplayer. You can get all 5 Khans fetchlands for $100. You can get all 10 shocklands for about $120. You can get all 5 triomes for about $25. Add on mana confluence, city of brass, fabled passage, and prismatic vista for another $60 or so. We barely broke $300 with all of that. You can get a fantastic 5 color manabase with $400.

Are people even building their own decks still? EDHREC is a great tool, but it seems to me like people are using it totally unoriginally. I see people saying "i bought the list" like it's a precon. Make some effort people :( make it personal. Make it yours.
@dorsalfin22
@dorsalfin22 4 жыл бұрын
Edhrec is the tool I use that makes it even possible for me to brew my own decks. This video series Joey is doing is simply illustrating the changes he would make to the average deck list based on his chosen categories such as budget, protection, etc. What I do is pick the commander or theme I am interested in and have the entire list of cards available, no filtering. Then I customize my deck based on what picks I really like. I definitely am not a fan of "net decking" where you just copy and paste, but not using these amazing tools to narrow the 20,000+ cards in the magic catalogue? That's a lot of cards to read every time you want to build a deck! Joey and the others have stated multiple times the edhrec is literally short for edh recommendations. You still have a bazillion recommend cards to pick from which is very different to me than net decking. I call it strategic research! :)
