Check out my new video: • Miter Saw Station - Pa...
I had a chance to go down to the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department for the weekend. This video is from a box run that Engine and Tower 33 took in. Engine 833 layed a suppy line as the 3rd due engine company on the box and stretched their 400ft 1.5" line. Tower 833 arrived as the 1st due truck. The crew split into an outside and inside team. The bar man (forcible entry) and can man (hook and can) along with the officer are the inside team. They are responsible for search, locating and opening up for the engine and ventilating. The OVM (outside vent man), roof man and driver make up the outside team. They are responsible for laddering the building, ventilation and VES (vent, enter, search) if needed.

Good to see some hussle for a change. Nearly every video I watch of US fire fighters everyone seems to be dawdling around letting the fire get 3x the size it needs to be. I'm a fire fighter in Aus not as many structure fires as you guys would get but we go hard like you guys do and if we didn't we would be getting asked a lot of questions... If my house was on fire id want you guys coming to it 😀👍👌 keep it up and stay safe.

Two questions: Is that 1 1/2 or 1 3/4? When you consider putting some 2 1/2 along with it why do you decide not to? I get that deployment speed is awesome but can someone talk about GPM. I’m trying to gain a more common sense approach to flow rates.

why are they pulling hose if nothing is on fire? why are they running is someone shooting at them off camera or something?
@rob77g60
@rob77g60 5 жыл бұрын
They are pulling hose because they do not know that it's just burnt food yet. Assume the worst until proven otherwise. They are running because they are fit, well trained and know what they're doing. In an emergency, time can be critical. If you're not prepared to hurry on the fire scene, don't bother using lights and sirens to get there.

@rob77g60

@@chrisminks8183that's often a great strategy too. There's a chief in my region that's well known for delaying hose deployment, even on reported structure fires, until he has decided exactly what size and length is needed. An insane level of micro management. He's also well known for saving foundations due to delayed fire attack. Know to when to stretch, know when to wait for more info.

I _love_ KZfaq firefighters. When the men on the scene pace themselves and take their time, people be all "OMG don't these lazy slugs realize there's a fire, get moving!"....and when the ff's go in aggressively, they're "clowns" working unnecessarily hard. No-win for the men on the scene...you know, the ones doing the _actual work_? So maybe it turned out to be a pot of meat...so what? It's good drill to practice doctrine on an actual scene, rather than the sanitized environ of a training ground. Fast _and_ safe, easy to wish for, hard to do. Well done, Kentland!

+Mike Doggers if that's the thing that kills you, that's sad. Who the fuck cares? Do you see how efficient their fireground operation is!? I hope this is just a fire alarm! @tobycameron317
@tobycameron317 8 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Ryan I hadn't thought of that. My other possible thought (assuming of course the accusation is even true...): suppose that a guy's a veteran, and his helmet gets trashed in the course of normal work, so he gets a new one. His personal pride would be "no way am I going out on the next call looking like a damn probie!". And you know what, even if none of this applies, and he was actually a rookie, that house gets enough work that he'll be a veteran in no time!

Ummmm Y not just pull a back up line off the first due engine. Work Smart not Hard
@zvelivis
@zvelivis 9 жыл бұрын
Damian it really depends on what you mean by "smart". As the 3rd due engine company we are required to secure our own water supply and lay out from the hydrant and stretch to the rear of the house/ building. We always stretch a line off of our wagon because we know that our nozzles, lines etc. have been checked and are ready for work.
@tobycameron317
@tobycameron317 9 жыл бұрын
If the line's from the same engine, then it's not a "backup" anymore, now is it? Safety in redundancy. With 2nd due a bit delayed, E33 would have the only dynamic water supply initially...or, even if they _didn't_ grab a hydrant, primary search team(s) would still have 2 booster tanks to work with instead of 1 (until 2nd due arrives, grabs a hydrant and inlines to 1st due...). Smart doctrine, well executed.

Well if it wasn't for appearance's sake, maybe for seasoning (in the sense of what one does with firewood or a cast-iron skillet)? To maybe toughen it up properly, before hitting a real fire? Or maybe a veteran ff got new equipment and didn't want to look like a n00b? I don't know, just guessing here. But if you know they work, then why are you insulting their professionalism and quality by sharing this gossip?
