Kentland 33 & 46 are two firehouses in Prince George's County, Maryland, USA. PG County is in the Washington, District of Columbia suburbs.
Company 33 (Engine Company, Rescue Engine Company, Tower Ladder Company) are the busiest 100% Volunteer Fire Companies in the United States of America.
The reason I chose to do this tribute, is because I one day wish to transition from Fire Buff to Volunteer Fireman in my home County of Ohio County, WV, USA. While at the gym, working out my cardio and doing strength training, I listen to Kentland 33/46 videos and PGFD volunteer KZfaq music videos to inspire me to keep working hard. I hope to one day meet the men and women of Kentland and pay my respects (as well as give Murphy Kentland a chew toy or doggie bone) :D
In an atmosphere as competitive as the Fire Service, where seconds count and training matters, there's often times animosity or rivalry between being paid or being a volunteer.
I was taught Fire Buffing/Photography by a mentor was was an Ohio County, WV Bethlehem Volunteer Fireman and later became and IAFF 12 Member and Wheeling, WV Fireman. Today, my mentor has rose through the ranks to be the Assistant Chief of Investigations in North Royalton, OH Fire Department (a Cleveland suburb). I'm forever grateful to ALL the fireman and firefighters in my life who have taught me about "the job" and made me a better Photographer and Professional Fire Buff.
For any young buffs out there, remember scene safety and stay the heck out of the way is your number 1 mission while on scene shooting photos and videos. Don't yell at the trucks and curse, there's kids always watching and you look goofy doing it on film. Be professional and RESPECT the job. Because it's always someone's worst day.
