Jay, Once again, thank you for your insights on the San Vicente. i always learn something new with your commentaries (different types of blinders). I have to agree with your comment on Nadal's confirmation ... his large hind quarters definitely look to be from a Northern Dancer line. Just getting started on getting to know this year's possible contenders for the Derby, so many thanks for getting the research started! I love how you are showing the horses up close. It gives one a better appreciation for the physicality and build. Interesting that they all appear to be bays. Names like Raad sound middle eastern. Is there a connection through breeder or owner? I recall the owners of American Pharoah were Egyptian.
@ursulabillings41734 жыл бұрын
There are many large ownerships between people across the world. A lot of rich and famous middle eastern people, like Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, who owns Godolphin, are a part of these ownerships. Middle eastern royalty will also often own racehorses here in America. You probably know about the Dubai World Cup, one of the world's richest races. It's run in the United Emirates

Please do watch out for BHD. That track scares me so much. I think it had a lot to do with early retirement of OB. Please be careful. I will be so happy when they say enough is enough, temporarily shut it down, build a new track, make all necessary surface changes and any other changes, and lead the way of racing into the future without this high track record of continuous deaths.

Another wonderful video. Every one seems better than the last. Nadal looks like a monster! He must be awe inspiring in person. I really like Storm the Court too...sleek, like the wind just slips by him like silk. I found myself wishing Nadal's feet were a bit bigger in order to support his weight and the pressures put on his legs and feet from running in a race. I looked at Nadal's pedigree and It looks like he could have the large heart gene on both sides. He certainly looks like he has the depth and girth for a large heart. What do you think?

Just a heads up. What you’re calling a “neck strap“ is just the reins wrapped around the horses necks. The reins are extra long and are connected in the center by a buckle. When the rider comes out onto the track he immediately ties the reins how he wants them and unfastens the buckle. The reins are double wrapped around the horses neck to take up the slack because they are so long, until they are tied by the rider.
@aimeehope9684 жыл бұрын
Not a neck strap, it was the reins looped around the neck to keep them out of the way.

Anybody got a sleeper horse in mind for the Derby?? I am not sold on any of these so far, including Baffert's Thousand Words.. (I saw a nice looking debut race from Aqueduct.. Linda Rice's Mauntauk Traffic?? (spelling)… unlikely Derby Horse, but what a nice performance of a horse looking strong...
@JayCNehfracing4 жыл бұрын
I think "sleepers" are hard to come by anymore because of the point system. Horses can't slip into the Derby from some lesser stakes victory anymore, they have to hit the points races. Woody Stevens won his first of 5 consecutive Belmonts with Conquistador Cielo. That horse won 3 allowance races before winning the Metropolitan Handicap Gr1 at a mile on May 31. Stevens was so dazzled with his performance he ran him back in 6 days and won the Belmont. You'll never see that happen in the Derby because he wouldn't have the points. You won't see that again in the Belmont or any other major race, to be honest.
@robertprestonsr24534 жыл бұрын
The horse she (Linda Rice) named above is actually "Montauk Traffic".. The last race he was in is available to watch here on KZfaq.. and I guess I should have called him a long shot to make it to the Derby... but she is pointing him to a grade 3 stakes race at the Big A on March 1st, I believe... Just to let you know, I did train a few standardbred horses in the 1980's-- with some small success -- (I worked full time and trained them at my 20 acre farm, either early or late-- but I had a boss who loved the track-- so I got some leeway) Anyway, if you don't mind, I will tell some true horse stories-- both the ups and downs-- some downright hilarious..as time passes... But I would add here that few people know how hard it is to even get a horse to the races.. So I really enjoy your videos, Jay... and I also much appreciate your work and success with "Hoofie"... Gosh, I hope he continues on the right path... He looks like he wants to win, to me... Best of Luck. Lastly, Woody Stevens was an amazing trainer in his time... Seems like he used Angel Cordero and liked his horses on the front end.. (Preakness was his best spot as I remember.)

Holy cow jay, why do they have chains in their mouths? Over the nose? Its painful to say the least. I'm not sure folks that aren't familiar with the racing experience can tell but a good distance runner it not as tightly wound in the back end. The overstep is much more evident of a distance runner than a 7 furlong runner. Storm had a longer step behind, indicating to me a better distance runner. He was very muscled up. Bob's horse is gorgeous. I don't understand the needs for chains however, at least these days.

@JayCNehfracing4 жыл бұрын
The large heart gene, theoretically, is only acquired from the dam's side for a male. But he gets it through his dam via Buckpasser, and I loooove Buckpasser, and Princequillo. Horse race or tennis match.....Nadal stormed the court to win . He has the look of real monster, a horse that beefy isn't going to win by big margins, all that matters is that he wins . Hope he's the next big star. :-)
I still don't know what to make of this horse. I don't like his action especially when coupled with how big he is. On it's face, he came home slow, but an opening 44sec half is incredibly fast. But, both speeds, him and Ginobli, stuck around after that fast pace. This was a prep for Storm the Court so I'm not sure how much significance you can put on this race, good or bad. For me, Thousand Words is a pass, Authentic is headcase which is not good, and Nadal is still a question mark. I seem to be favoring east coast horses thus far. It's still early though!

@@JayCNehfracing well, congratulations hopefully I'll get to see him in a race to validate my thoughts of him potential being derby worthy. Thanks for the update!

(2:55) not a "neck strap". That's the reins unbuckled and crossed over the neck and rebuckled so they don't drag low. Come on...

He had just removed it. Come on...

@@JayCNehfracing how about "oops, that was a mistake. We removed that portion thanks for the heads up."(?) Best wishes to you and your team of able bodied "horsemen and women" P.s. you exercise gal has a beautiful seat and patient hands.

I don't know if Nadal is better than Thousand Words though.

I have my doubts too

Nadal is massive. Any idea how many hands he is?

I'm thinking 16.3 easy
@SassySorrelFilly4 жыл бұрын
@@MLOCharmer I figured 17 for sure but because he's so big overall that it's hard to tell by video. Hopefully he's been developed slowly enough that running that young and at that size won't hurt him. Anytime I see a TB racehorse that's that big, I have flashbacks to Eight Belles and her tragic end. 17.1 hands high by three and running in the Derby. Her legs didn't hold up :( Baffert is my favorite trainer and I know he loves his horses, so I know he wouldnt do anything to jeopardize their wellbeing.

Jay, I knew NADAL was the better horse over STORM THE COURT. STC's win in the BCJ was a fluke. NADAL was just hand ridden pass the wire...his dosage shows hes good for distance. Baffert has ALL HIS K.D. contenders on PEEK PERFORMANCE feed. Are you using it at your barn?? As usual, Jay...GREAT VIDEOS!! LET US KNOW WHEN YOUR RACING, THANKS!

Thanks. I use Hallway, same as Bobby Frankel

The wraps are to protect the suspensary ligaments, not skidding
@JayCNehfracing4 жыл бұрын
Actually, a study was done on that and it showed that the bandages do not help support the suspensories, even though many horsemen believe they do. However, if you look closely at the video you will see the clear plastic patch applied to the heel over the bandage to keep the abrasive track surface from scraping through the vet wrap.
