Black AF was the shit. That show was funny 😂 I really enjoyed it. Even though I’m not in Kenya’s tax bracket YET, it was still superrr relatable because my kid’s father and I are young, “cool”/ modern black parents raising our kids in Hollywood so I identified with a lot of the scenarios in my own way. Definitely waiting for season 2. Just rewatched season 1 not too long ago. I’m a big fan of Curb and shows with that dry humor so to see a black show like that was EVERYTHING. Leonard was entitled to his opinion and didn’t have to like it BUT I think he didn’t understand what it was really about and his take on it was deeper than it needed to be. Every black show doesn’t have to be about black people struggling or suffering to be relatable. Black ppl notoriously love fly shit so the show felt natural to me. I feel like there were still elements that were super relatable to a broad group of black ppl not just wealthy black ppl. Black AF was a dark Blackish in my opinion. Loved it. 🖤

With all that Kenya Barris has achieved, he is very humble and unassuming on personal and professional levels. He’s not just resting in his success. He recognizes the need to draw others in to also have a seat at the table. I also really loved the fact that his children feel comfortable opening up the most vulnerable aspects of themselves to him … that really speaks volumes.

In San Francisco I was a paraprofessional (teacher's aide) at Starr King Elemenatry School where OJ Simpson went as a child. We produced The Wiz, with children from our school. I made munckin wings. Two student artists both with disciplinary files two inches thick made the backdrop with my help. We took it on the road to senior centers and other schools. A principal at a middle school bought the backdrop for $40. Some parents made designer costumes for their kids to wear. Children sang and danced on the stage. Another teacher in the school took photographs of each child in the play and delevoped each photo at home which were blown up to 24 X 20 inches and given to each child. We worked on the Wiz for weeks during the school day instead of most curriculum activities. It was a huge success among parents students and staff. I am very proud to this day of my participation in all school functions at Starr King School.
