The Statement by the KCCB was timely and important. However, my view is that it needed to have been presented in a better manner. The shifting of each Bishop to make room for the next speaker was rather 'untidy' for such an important statement. The use of a lectern would have been more suitable and for the statement. Also the statement needed to have been read while standing instead of shuffling into a sitting position for each Bishop to read his segment of the statement. Further, reading of the statement while standing, I believe would indicate the importance of the statement. I hope a print copy of the same is available on line.

Bishops of Kenya and Africa from a Burundian Catholic based in Europe: Lex orandi, lex credendi, lex vivendi! You bear huge responsibility in the evils that are stopping Africa from developing. There is no amount of political critique and guidance, good as it may be, that will ever replace liturgy as the central force for the creation, through divine grace, of the virtues we need to develop. Please put political activism to one side and check the state of the liturgy in Kenya and Africa: It is appalling! What I see when I watch African mass online is worrying: An Archbishop wiping his face while the Credo is being sung, people moving around the alter during Mass in Kinshasa cathedral, endless movement in the choir area at Dakar cathedral during Chrism Mass, senseless dances across almost all African Churches. We cannot be reducing liturgy to dance, depleting our glorious heritage like gregorian chant, and expect to generate a real grasp of the sacred among our faithfuls. We have long lost taste for contemplative spirituality to embrace entertainment. The bad news for us Africans is Protestantism came too early and Vatican II as well. Europe did what she achieved because of centuries of uncontested catholic liturgy in the traditional form. Europe developed the transcendality she has because of the Latin spirituality and language. So my brothers, if you want to stand a chance, go back to serious liturgy, invest in Latin, it is our source of unity with history and African Churches. We need that to get to a point where we can generate critical mass of virtues to get moving. Until we do this, better put aside the politiking. It will be a futile exercise. And another consideration: Kenya will never prosper in a region full anti-values. You will never make it next to the dictatorships around you, you need a wider market. Ending political corruption alone at home will never deliver, you need way more jobs than a poor East and African market can support at present. So, if politics must be done, Kenya is a major driver of the EAC, so expel the countries that a causing havoc in Congo, you know them. Without a performing Congolese economy, cry loud as you wish, God will never allow you prosperity. You are too silent about the millions of Congolese dying, why? Because they are not Anglophones? You Kenyans are the hope of the regions but Protestant values and Catholicism not rooted in tradition, especially in matters of liturgy will always keep you ineffective. We can do better.

Another sad moment for me. At 57 years old, i believe most of you bushops are of the same age. But what makes me sad is inthe whole statement, no mention of action at this Grolier a goid times of change. When i talk of age its because most if you who are kenyan citizens you remember very well how many catholic priest died during moi time Anglican church leaders leader was tortured during that time for joining the citizens and criticizing the government.
