Kenya’s quest for the oil dollar inched closer today after President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned the first four trucks ferrying 600 barrels of crude oil from Lokichar in Turkana County to Mombasa by road. Kenyatta urging residents to focus on the long-term impact of the oil revenue that will begin to trickle in, in 2021 following the commercialization of the crude oil.
Our reporter Mumbi Warui attended the event in Lokichar, Turkana County and filed the following report.
Citizen TV is Kenya's leading television station commanding an audience reach of over 60% and in its over 12 years of existence as a pioneer brand for the Royal Media Services (RMS), it has set footprints across the country leaving no region uncovered.

Someone help me understand why the crude oil is being exported, only to be bought back at a higher price, and yet we once had a great oil refinery in Changamwe.

Ludenyo James Wangia it's called being retarded. I've racked my brain trying to understand this thunderous stupidity but I've given up. Refining it could have created jobs and earned so much more but I guess the government's definition of jobs for the youth is digging sewers and trenches.

why export to be refined and processed elsewhere while we have mombasa refinery that can refine hence make fuel cheaper in the country, there will be no need of kenya to import fuel in future if we make good use of our own refinery in mombasa.

Essy Kate It is 5% of Kenya government's total share allocation to the local community where the oil is derived from and 15% for Turkana county government. The national government of Kenya gets the remaining 80%. Now, how much does Kenya get from the total revenue? And how much does the Tullow Oil company of the UK make out of the deal? Good question.... Kenya's share will be in the range of between 11% - 17% (I think) against the Tullow Oil company's 83% - 89% of the loot. Who will be responsible for the cleaning up the environmental mess that will be with the local community for years to come? Another good question...

Edinah Achieng you have a valid point but that is why the county was specifically given a 20% cut. If money is distributed directly to the citizens as hand outs that just opens up avenues for corruption and that 5% will end up in the pockets of 1% of them because that's what Kenyans do, they steal at every opportunity imaginable.
