Unexpectedly, the flood gates opened, and I was so wet the blood had saturated my black pants to my knees. Having told my manager I'm wet thru, I need to go home. Rather than cover my shift, she told me to go stand in the sun for a bit. In hindsight I wish I had pursued the matter with higher ups. If, as a customer, I would be mortified to think that my food server was in such a state.

I have sympathy for what you went through so many decades ago when you started your period. I went through the same thing myself at high school blood on my dress I was sent to the principal office. But what happened to you was not that you Intentionally walked around or paraded yourself in public knowing full well that your clothes are stained with blood. So what you went through is totally different than what this discussion is really about. Eventually I have no doubt that you were able to get something to stop the bleeding or use sanitary pads even if it was not discussed during those times. At least you did use something to collect your menstrual bleeding.
