I still shit bricks over the fact that right after this amazing woman injured her leg winning gold for her country at her home Olympic games, she would have been handed off to Larry Nassar for treatment... A moment of appreciation for just how much great athletes past and present have had to genuinely suffer for the sake of their careers...

I have heard that she was pretty upset over effectively destroying her chances of winning a personal gold in the all-around, but I hope she has come to understand one thing: winning a gold medal takes talent and determination, but what she did takes character. What she did will be remembered a hundred times longer than some personal achievement. She is loved by everyone who was watching that day 25 years ago.

I remember watching that event on live TV. It was amazing!!

You've just witnessed a 90 lb. gymnast, possessed of BRUTAL HEROICS, battled through excruciating pain and possible, unknown permanent injury to herself and her career, selflessly carried and entire nation over the line to international glory. Don't you dare quit!!!

What she did is worth more than even sweeping gold in all events and the all-around in the individuals. No one is going to remember who won gold that Olympics years from now. But people fondly remember her clutch performance. Being an Olympian in any sport takes hard work, dedication, determination… What Kerri did takes heart. And that’s in short supply even with Olympians. She may not have won individual medals, but her legacy will live on far longer than most of those who did.

This woman is a legend. Period.

Wow! She's so beautiful, and what a CLASS act! And that voice!! She has the heart of a champion. I had a severe ankle sprain/torn ligaments last year, and heard that "pop" sound. I am still astonished that she was able to do what she did after that, with the second vault. It brings tears to me eyes every time I watch it, because I know some of what she was dealing with and pushing through, and it's almost impossible, and also because I'm just so inspired by and proud of her. This is truly one of the very, very, gutsiest performances I've ever seen or known of. In fact, since yesterday, I've been thinking of what would be the most inspiring and moving sports performances ever, and although there are others, the two that keep coming up and are solidly at the top of my list by themselves are this, Kerri's second vault in '96, and the "Bobby Murcer game" in 1979, after Thurmon Munson, the Yankees' team captain, was killed in a plane crash during the season. (I encourage you to watch the video of that; it should still be here on YT and it's less than 15 minutes long, I believe). Kerri is a true inspiration! God bless her! I know it was a true team effort, but wow, talk about your all-time gut-checks; she literally carried the team on her back at that moment, on one good leg. I feel like writing more, but I realize that words just aren't going to be enough. Just wow! I'm 50 years of age, and this is easily in my top list of all-time greatest sports moments. What many people don’t realize is that even if she hadn’t landed that vault, team USA would have won regardless. Instead of winning by about 0.820, the margin would have been about 0.31.

She really just went up to carry struggle after struggle, and man was it done well. Yeah, that was a pun, but like, to an extent she did Kerri the team as much as they had to then carry her, and that wasn't a tiny struggle, it was a gigantic challenge for Mrs. Strug. As someone who's good at twisting his ankles walking around, I feel nothing in comparison to the legendary event this one was. I wasn't even alive yet and here we are, impressed by this.

Just finished Tony Robbins Unleash the Power Within training and Tony talked about Kerry's determination to do the vault despite the injury and the pain.

Anyone who watches the clip after the fact cannot experience what exactly it was like to watch it live because when it happened NO ONE knew she was going to hurt her ankle and EVERYONE thought USAs chances at a gold were lost to the Russians. She was our last hope and the last gymnast and she fell and hurt herself on her first vault. We all thought it was over. And we all WAITED while she was looked over by the doctors and they were saying she would not be able to do another vault. Then as the last seconds of time she had between vaults drew near, Bella took her over to the mat where she stood up and hobbled over to the starting spot, ready to go again. We couldnt believe she was going to try agsin. Then silence and anticipation as she took off AT FULL SPEED on her injured ankle sprinting toward the vault, when she sprang off of the trampoline off of the vault and high into the air, spinning around perfectly and coming down HARD only to STICK the landing on ONE LEG as her thigh shuddered when she struggled to stand fully upright ON ONE LEG! And she did it, and she held her arms high and the crowd ERUPTED in the loudest cheers as she turned on one leg to hold her arms high for the judges and then collapsed on the ground. Watching it then as it happened it was THE GREATEST FEAT AT THE GREATEST AND MOST IMPORTANT MOMENT which gave USA the WIN! The most impressive moment in sports ive ever seen launching her into her place as the MOST INCREDIBLE ATHLETE ever to compete in sports. Im a grown man and it brought me to tears. Nothing like it before or since.

I’ve done that before, my ankles aren’t the same years after. It sounds like stepping on snow, then you can’t feel it, numb other than hot and cold feelings, it swells, you can’t move it, you’ve torn your ligaments, that’s what’s so odd about this, the human body has functions, she defied that. Shouldn’t have been possible to do what she did. At all. I can’t imagine it and I’ve torn ligaments a few times and was a gymnast myself for years, I just don’t understand it. Mind over matter I guess. I’m British and one thing I love about the US is they are like us British, they win or die. Bravery doesn’t come into it, you have no choice. You were born a winner. You don’t bleed red, you bleed the colour of your ancestors, the colour of the flag, you bleed gold if you have to.

poor girl, I can't imagine the amount of pressure she was under at only 15. You can tell here she wasn't just an Olympic Gold Medalist but she was deep in the throws of an eating disorder that was stealing her youth as well. Her teeth are literally pegs. Everyone is making fun of her voice, but the reality is she was robbed of getting to go through puberty in a healthy way because she had so much stress on her to compete and was also starving herself, so her voice never even would have had a chance to develop.
