@22:30 Hi Kerry, great review. I believe the input jacks are supported by the risers on the B-side of the case that meet the bottom of the metal jacks.

I mainly use my Uni-t ut139s with the ut61+ as my second meter. However, I recommend the an870 as a first meter. There’s too many Flukes on eBay with the line 'I bought this two years ago and thought I’d use it more, it’s been in a drawer ever since.' At £30 you get a decent meter with a temperature setting which helps a lot when you’ve not got a thermal camera. The NCV is also far better than the Uni-t multimeter. When doing microvolts you need to reset any multimeter with the RELΔ button, this wasn’t the meter in the wrong it was simply used incorrectly.

Have you also seen AN9002? It's even cheaper and I'm not sure which one to pick - AN9002 or AN870.

Thanks for reviewing 👍I ordered this MM over Kaiweets because this one has range button to select the range manually which I want. I have a good clamp meter for HV vorks with proper CAT4 internals.

Hi, is there any chance/way to modify the ROM, and so this AN870 will be able to produce the Square Wave Output? I can see the LCD display is ready with the Square Wave Output segment... If so, this AN870 will be the best replacement for AN8008 + AN8009.

Question: When DMM 'accuracy' is stated as ±X% and ±N digits it is clear that the TRUE value is the displayed value ±N digits, and to this we must add the percentage value. But is that X% of the full scale value or X% of the displayed value? For example: X=0.5, N=8; 2 Volt range (1999 count), displayed value is 1.234. So, applying the digits of uncertainty we have a value between 1.226 and 1.242 Volts. Easy. Now 0.5% of 1.234 is 0.006 but 0.5% of 2 (the FSD) is 0.010. Which should we apply?
@KerryWongBlog
@KerryWongBlog 3 жыл бұрын
Unless explicitly specified, the error percentage is always relative to your reading rather than the range
@frosty129
@frosty129 3 жыл бұрын
My rule of thumb when dealing with Chinese specifications for cheap products is divide by 2 to get peak value, divide by 4 to get usable spec. In this case, take 0.5% and multiply by 8 to get typical error of 4%, so I wouldn't trust the last two digits basically. If you want precision tools that can be trusted, save money and buy a real multimeter.

UT61E+ is a much superior meter in both price, build quality, and "spec" and hopefully in reliability too. Dave Jones from EEVblog should have made a similar comparison video as you did.

I think the original ut61e is a better meter, seems to be more accurate. The new ut61e+ has become too pricey and it's great that Aneng filled the gap left by the original ut61e. It's all about what you want in a meter, but for 95+ % of use cases this meter is fine. My Bryman 869s fills my need to geek out with a meter that does half a million counts (and accurately). My Fluke 87V fills my need to have a meter that feels like a brick in your hand.

Based on the poor sensitivity at low voltages and the lack of protection, personally I would probably save a bit more money for a couple of weeks and buy a bit higher in the market, but that's just me !...cheers.
@KerryWongBlog
@KerryWongBlog 3 жыл бұрын
Although there are some issues in low nV range measurements, personally I don't think that is an issue for the majority of people as most of time you are not going to go down beyond decimal places in mV measurements. IMO, the maker should've just limited the resolution in all mV ranges to 10nV. Other meters like the UT61E+ I recently reviewed only go down to 10nV in all ranges although it is a 22,000 count meter.

@@KerryWongBlog, when you switch the range to DCA (mA, uA) with no probes connected, the display shows -.0003 practically all the time. Is this the normal behavior of the an870 multimeter?

@@KerryWongBlog, thanks. I like this multimeter, it has many more functions and is more precise than my old ut33c. I just don't know if the aneng shows the correct amperage. I have a Korad ka3005d laboratory power supply, during its calibration the ut33c shows 4.93A, while the an870 shows 5.000A. The cheapest "yellow" dpm multimeter shows 4.99A. I got used to the spacing of ut33c sockets and earlier, by mistake, I connected the probes in a similar way to the an870, ie the black one to the socket marked "V, ohm ...", and the red one to the socket marked "20A". I ran a small current through the probes. Could such action damage the an870? Unfortunately, I was doing it late at night and I wasn't really thinking. I hope you understand what I wrote, because I also help myself with a google translator - I am better at reading than writing in English :)

@@yankovalsky7696 A properly designed DMM should be able to handle the situation you mentioned even when the leads are in the wrong sockets. To see if your meter is in spec you will need to have a reference voltage source.

So: "I don't think there's enough protection, but I'm not going to look on the other side of the PCB". Sort of defeats the purpose of a teardown. We also don't get to see the quality of the switch contact layout, something that's important for judging the long-term wear of the switch.
