In 2019 I paddled (solo) the Kesagami River in Northeastern Ontario. Due to some "unexpected issues" I bailed on that trip at Whaleback Falls about 190km from the Put-in. I had to leave my canoe stashed in the bush.
In August/September 2021 along with Sam82 we paddled tandem in an esquif Canyon from the Detour Road to Whaleback Falls (13 days including two layovers). Water levels were fairly low, slightly lower than in 2019. In the upper part of the river there were some grindy sections, in the main 35km rapid section downstream of Kesagami Lake the levels made for a comfortable run, some portages skipped and less drama than one might be encounter during Spring high water.
Happily we found my canoe where I left it, having been used only for some fairly recent period as a "picnic area" for squirrels. Once again we could revert to our normal solo paddling, nice to be back in my familiar boat while Sam had to get adjust to soloing the big Canyon (normally he paddles a Pocket Canyon).
I didn't take much footage of rapid running, never took out my GoPros so there are just some snippets of some of the smaller runs downstream of Whaleback up to The Last Portage.
