Awesome Awesome Awesome. Good Stuff Amy! For what its worth - Keto is VERY limited and tough if saturated fats are eliminated from food options. We eliminated SF from my Mom's diet for 7 months or so after we learned she was an Apoe3-4 and one of her small LDL numbers was slightly elevated. Surprisingly after 7 months of impossibly hard to to saturated fatless Keto - we re-tested and the lipids numbers were pretty much what they were before eliminating SF. Lucky in our case. So we eliminated the SF elimination. Keto got a lot easier. Just one person. Just one case.

Honestly, I don't think saturated fat needs to be limited. I was just telling people they *can*, if they want to hedge that bet just in case. If it were me, personally, I wouldn't sweat it. I wouldn't overload on butter & cheese, cream, etc., but I wouldn't make it a priority to avoid it.

ApoE4 is associated with increased fat metabolism, AKA you are better at burning fat. You get higher cholesterol because you are metabolizing the fat faster. It seems to be more common in lean mass hyper responders. I also have increased sensitivity to omega 6, If I eat something high in omega 6 I can tell within an hour. My skin feels different afterwards like it's puffy. And I have Apoe4 and Apoe2. So I think you are spot on with that.

You've just described me. My grandma has AD and I have one copy of APOE4. I've never been overweight in my life but I have so many issues when I eat high carb. Also omega six sensitive , when I eat nuts or seeds I will have acne within hours.

Excellent information, Amy! Also love your book. This additional clarification is so helpful and I will be passing it on and buying you more coffee 😉. Eliminating or reducing the cheese and having the low carb diet seems to be the most important for APOE4 carriers. I also appreciated the tidbit on the nutrients- omega 3:6 ratio, B12, vitamin D, etc. Thanks for simplifying!

Considering APOE4s are less efficient at metabolizing fat, wouldn’t Paleo be a better way to keep carbs low or at least a modified Keto to keep the fat levels manageable?

Thank you so much for this video. After finding out through 23&Me that my daughter and I are both heterozygous for this gene, I wanted to use the information to improve our odds of not getting AD. I had already started the Keto-Green diet (a diet designed by Dr. Anna Cabeca to balance hormones and emphasizing lots of vegetables in the context of keto) and am concerned that my cholesterol will be sky high by the time I have my next physical. Based on the information in your video as well as additional research I have done, I think I am on the right track with my current diet even if my cholesterol is high. I also know now that high cholesterol in the context of a keto diet may not even be medically significant, although my doctor is going to have a cow if is because she will likely not know that. If it IS high, I will probably further modify my diet to make it more of a Mediterranean-style keto diet emphasizing olive oil, avocado oil and fish. Thank you for the information and the confirmation that I am on the right path. I know that we do not know all the answers yet, and that some of this information is still speculation, but it seems that we are getting closer to the answers all the time.

If ApoE4 your liver sucks up too much dietary fat from cholomicron remnants and thus has less ability to suck up (clear) LDL particles from the bloodstream before they get oxidized. So you wind up with too many small dense LDLs. For myself I am trying to modify my ketogenic diet to eliminate dairy. Substitute olive oil for butter and lard. Eat less fatty meat and more fatty fish. Can't wait to dive into the sardines (not). We will see if my LDL-P improves.

27:16 "If you are chronically marinating yourself in insulin all day, you are at higher risk for Alzheimer's--period." Maybe so, Amy. But I'm sure that's only true for people who aren't following a high-carb food plan from a conventional RD. If the insulin bath is a consequence of following expert advice, I'm sure the insulin degrading enzyme takes that into account and has pity on us...

At 23:29 "There are tribes in Nigeria that have a very very high frequency of this APOE4 gene, and you know what they don't have...Alzheimer's disease! They have lots and lots of E4 among them - they don't get Alzheimer's disease because they live, and they eat very very differently to the way that we live and eat in the rest of the industrialized world." I have heard Vegan doctors claim this as a victory for their side, but I have always dismissed this notion due to the fact that (as of 2016) the average life expectancy in Nigeria is fifty-four years old. How many people in any population that are dying in their late 50's to early 60's are already showing symptoms of late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD)? What kind of medical observation are these "tribes" getting that would assure clinicians good stats on this? Therefore, I have always been skeptical of this claim.

Arthur life expectancy is calculated on population level. Generally all of Africa has low life expectancy because of child death not that people die in their 50es. There are more older and functioning people in Africa if they survive childhood and other killings. I hope this helps.

@@ndusfca2012 When statistics become available that tell me what percentage people who did live 63 years or older show signs of Alzheimer's/Dementia, and how that percentage compares to other nations - then I'll be more open to believe it. Despite your clear explanation, it won't stop some individuals from using per capita stats to support an agenda (i.e. vegans), when in fact a large portion of the population never lived long enough to show symptoms of Late Onset Alzheimer's Disease in the first place.

Enjoyed this!! I do wonder what your thoughts are on the CHC22 Clathrin? I am APOE3/4 (heterozygous), but my CHC22 is homozygous CC (farmer type). I do Intermittent Fasting (16/8 with some 24hr), eat few refined carbs, but not limiting them much. Never been a huge meat eater, but I do eat it a couple/times/week. Labs are good and insulin was 3.51 a few weeks ago... so wonder if the CHC22 variant I have contributes to this. Thanks again for all you do. Keep it up!!

I think omega 3 is extremely important for apoe 4 from what I've read. Beef/pork brain has around 0.7g of omega 3 per 100g and it's in line with hunter gatherer the most.

Just watch your video on apoe4, first love your energy and insight. I do have a couple of questions: you mentioned to limit your glucose, and saturated fat. Question, what percent of saturated is good and what is the best glucose level you suggest. Also, if apoe4 individuals have a difficult time already transported fat wouldn’t consuming saturated fat be not so advised for someone is has cardiovascular issues or another? Thx

Amy, great video!!! Thanks so much for your dedication. Question, is there any connection with the APOE4 gene and blood type O? I am referring to D’Adamo’s theory of the blood type diet. I still question the validity of that research. Any input would be appreciated. The diet for blood type O is very similar to what you are suggesting.

What if your apob goes up on a ketogenic or low carb diet? Seems like an independent risk factor for CVD until proven otherwise. Should someone eat like 70% protein, 10% carb, 20% fat in that case or something along those lines? Maybe increase carb/fat by a bit as long as numbers are good?

@DanScottChannel
@DanScottChannel 5 жыл бұрын
@@ndusfca2012 No, I don't know but will get the test done to find out. Somebody else I was talking to on YT said they had ApoE4 gene and went high fat but their lipids never exceed 300? I have adjusted my macros and increased protein and as of May 19 I am down to 478 where HDL and Tri's are good. I may also have a unique situation seeing I had a kidney/pancreas transplant in 1995 and a second kidney in 2012. It may be something to do with the immunosuppressant drugs I take? I also considered I may not have been metabolizing fats very well for deficiency in L Carnitine. I researched carnatine and started taking 2g of the Acetyl L Carnitine along with Acetyl L Carnosine. As for fat metabolism, although I'm low BMI already, after a week on the carnitine, I dropped more fat around the lower belly and the abs started showing. What they say about this supplement in relationship to mitochondria and fat transport/metabolism seems to work.... BTW, love your channel!
