Ketone Identification Test Organic Compounds

7 жыл бұрынketone (alkanone) /ˈkiːtoʊn/ is an organic compound with the structure RC(=O)R', where R and R' can be a variety of carbon-containing substituents. Ketones and aldehydes are simple compounds that contain a carbonyl group (a carbon-oxygen double bond).

The statement at 2:10 that the yellow precipitate of iodoform tells you that you have a ketone is NOT generally correct. The iodoform test tells you that you have a METHYL ketone, such as 2-octanone. It would not work (you would not get a yellow precipitate) for 3-octanone, 4-octanone, or cyclohexanone, even though they are all ketones. Still, (except for using a Bunsen burner to heat the water bath in the presence of a flammable compound) this is the best video realization I have seen of the iodoform test to date.
