Other notes: Happy (1.5 month late) new year! For our first siren test of 2024, we decided to come back to Kettering to record this RM that puts out some really sweet sounding echoes. My tight shot footage of this siren didn't turn out as crisp as I would've liked, which is most likely due to me using a little bit of digital zoom on my PowerShot since we were set up a decent distance from it. However, the audio that my phone captured is pretty good, so I'd say that makes up for the kinda pixely shot, especially with the echoes. Kettering tested on time this month but the test was pretty weird. There was almost a two minute gap between when the siren finished winding down after the alert cycle and when it wound back up for attack, and the attack was quite sporadic. There were a few attack cycles where it would wind down longer than it should and only growled during the wind-ups. In total, this strange attack sequence lasted for about 4 minutes, so one could say that we got more than we bargained for here. I'm really not sure what could've caused this to happen. As far as loudness of the siren goes, it felt a little louder than the lower pitched RM we recorded the previous month, and we could feel it rattle our chests decently. Although, from the back door of the school that's only about 80 feet from the pole, I definitely noticed the sound bouncing off the walls of the building. From there, I think it might've been pretty close to how loud the P-127 in Englewood by I-70 was, but still not as loud as the three-phase RM at Polen Farm or the 480v P-15 in Toledo. My meter jumped up to 115.6 dBA from standing in that spot, and before that I think it read somewhere around 111-112 if I remember correctly. Enjoy!
