I am a retired sheep shearer in Australia. Trying to stay fit as a semi retired 74 year old. You look well, no drugs obvious and comfortable in yourself. Now I remember doing some sums when I was a fit and skillfull shearer and crutcher dragging 65 tonnes ( we do metrics here ) of. Struggling large crossbreed ewes across a board to clean their bums in an 8 hour day . This is not exceptional by the standards of the day, indeed we have shearer’s in Australia and New Zealand who train like you do who could probably double what I did at my best in my late 30s.find it interesting that there are many ways to be your BEST.

With being stuck at home working out in my garage, I unintentionally have started to become a kettle-beller. I had no equipment so the easiest thing to do was to go out and buy some kettlebells. No benches required, just the kettlebell. I've been studying and programming my own workouts and much of what you are saying jives with what I "thought." This video helped confirm what I "thought" to now, what I know & more. Very good and informative commentary. Thank you!

At my age (59) I now shoot for 220 snatches in 10-12 minutes with a yellow comp bell. I'm 5' 4" 150 lbs. Back in 1999 I was up to two poods and weighted 170 and 200 snatches not timed.. These things are a life long tool for saying in shape, I wish I would have had them when I was in the service, and your advise.... . Great videos!!!!

Hey Mark just thanks. I have a list of your videos in my KZfaq that i save for future use or go back to, and I hear things new or am reminded 6 months later. I love it. I started w KB about 7months before the shut down. Got lucky and scored some decent low grade bells in a discount store(ugly gray functional Weider brand- so far no need to spend more, yet). Figured why spend a ton of money before I know what Im doing. So far it's worked out. I was able to add a few more durong the shutdown. And my set is complete for a while. It was a long year but im so stoked I had a jump on KB and found you BEFORE it all. I am hoping to add clubs(adex and your beginner recommendations) within the year just to add another dimension since with certain joint issues the barbell will never be my friend and i want stable movemnt anyway.. So...im all in with KB as I age. And Im so dang grateful for you making it so accessible and possible for ME where Im at. And i think that's the coolest thing about you..besides just seeming like a nice smart guy. You make this feel really possible for any of us newbies, and for me in my age group, as a woman, that's not how I was raised. Just not the message i got growing up. So Im learning from the bottom up..Learning around chronic injury issues, .and just soaking it all in. I just want to be stronger and stable as i get older. So thank you Mark. My deepest sincere appreciation, from the bottom of my heart, for you being a decent kind human and teaching us how to use KB and self program(or be able to try). Just always grateful for you and your work...every time i hear you. And you make me laugh. 🙏😂

I've trained with barbells, dumbbells and kettlebells for many years and I can honestly sign everything he said. For barbells, the best factor to modify is load. For dumbbells, it's a wave pattern of load and repetitions. For kettlebells, it's definitely volume. Not necessarily reps per set, but overall volume no matter if you do it in clusters or in standard sets. I don't really find it sensible to go really heavy with kettlebells more than once a month. Volume and precise movements with a moderate weight goes a lot, lot, further than simply a really heavy double kettlebell workout.

Just ordered a pair of 16kg kettlebells. I need that booty and abs everywhere. Now I gotten a bit stronger with them, bought a pair of 45s and soon will upgrade to 55s. The training really hits your core hard as you need to tighten up everything when doing a workout like a simple overhead press I feel like it's possible to build good amount of mass through the usage of only kettlebell training by slowly adding heavier weight and with the combination of bodyweight training (aka calisthenics). You will build hella lean ripped muscle and mass and if possible get big as long as you eat a healthy surplus of food and importantly rest

Mark, you mention starting with 5 sets of 10 to begin with. Which movements would you put together as a beginner workout? Would you split the 6 main movements into two different days or all 6 in one workout? Looking for a starting point I guess

Swings are the king of kettlebell movement and the building block for so many other exercises in KB. Start with two handed swings, a good start would be 5 sets of 20 reps or 30 seconds on 30 seconds off for 10 minutes. Then keep it simple at first, do shoulder presses up right rows, round the worlds for upper body. Squats and dead lifts for lower body. Russian twists for core etc

@@theseusc.5475 Not very consistent. I'm staying with the light Kettlebells more frequently. I'm happy with how my shape has changed so far.

I almost bought gym equipment and wasted a lot of money. I’m glad to have found this page before anything! I actually dig the movement and discipline of KB and bodyweight training. I only carry 6lbs and 15lbs being a beginner. The other day I managed to finish 3 reps each of TGU! 🎉

Hi Mark, how should time my rest if I train EMOM with double (left hand and right hand) movements? For instance, as you said 10 double hands KB swings would take 20 seconds, so 40 sec to rest, but if I do 10 KB swings (or cleans or presses) with the right arm only and another 10 with the left it will take about 40-50 sec , shall I rest for only 20-10 sec and start over or rest longer? Thanks a lot mate
