I enjoyed this bio. Will always regret that I didn't discover Kevin's music until after he had passed away. I'd like to have seen him perform and would have absolutely loved to have met him. A truly unique artist.

A proper adult musician. Cant fault this bio. Caught him live at the South Bank early 90s, about the same time I saw Kevin Coyne. Always think of them as the 2 Kevins now. Equally gifted, equally special.

Only recently discovered Ayer’s music, though I remember reading about him in my youth. Can’t get over the genius of those first solo records. Thanks for the good survey and useful survey.

Absolutely spot on, especially the comparison between Ayers and Reed at the end. I used to have all of Ayers' albums up through '77, but eventually lost them all except Odd Ditties (which you don't mention) because I went my own dissipated path. The fellow was an absolute genius, as any study of him will show, but all he wanted was to relax, which is a hard thing to do if you have that talent and need to support your habits. Missed a chance to see him in '94, still love him very much.

And I loved k's joy of a toy, a whimsical foray accompanied by his former bandmates, Robert Wyatt, Mike Ratledge, and even Hugh Hopper, to who in replaced Ayers to in in Soft Machine as the year we after all Ayers in left. This took it the band in a in more jazzy direction, owing to his in ability to be read and compose in music, having contributed a couple to of songs to the first album. Kevin to and his easy-going and laid back in lifestyle wouldserve him well in his subsequent work

Meant to add that I don’t know how common the Lou Reed comparison is, but jibes with my impression listening to Ayers over the past month. Pity he is to my knowledge largely unknown among even pretty knowledgeable music buffs here in the USA.

Great , one video i never saw , the one from that's what you get babe.... For me he is the opposite of Peter Hammill more..in fact when i produced Kevin (i produced both actually Hammill in 78 and Kevin 93) i wanted to polay him some Peter hammill and he answered: No way i hate this guy !...(quite revealing) (i pout Geoffrey Oryama , he loved it )

Who is this div narrator..??? Needs some elocution lessons. "wiv"?? What is this word? Who are "The Soft Machine"?? or "The Pink Floyd"?? This kid should be muted.

Those bands were known (and billed) as 'The Soft Machine' and 'The Pink Floyd' at the start of their careers and on their earliest albums, so he's not wrong there.
