Steve likes organic matches. Coming up with it on the fly, was something Vince knew. He also understood the pressure Steve would put on himself. The one person to ask for absolute certainty is Vince. Unfortunately he'll take all of this to his grave.

Austin also has hearing issues..so he couldn't hear call outs and ques very well..so he would wing it.. That famous "WHAT?"..also came about as a result of his hearing issues and him at one point often saying it in the ring to his opponents.. Look up his match with Undertaker before WWE when he himself had long hair and Undertaker was then known as "The punisher"..he couldn't hear the ques and kept saying "WHAT"..until Taker said phuckit and just beat the shit out of him over it..

Optics. No one expected a match to happen. They just assumed it would be a quick brawl. This way, if the match didn't happen, fans wouldn't be as disappointed If the match was advertised, it risked not living up to hype or looking cheap. It was the right call to not advertise.

I think this was on Austin, but not in a bad way. Giving his injury history, he might have been into it, but unsure what he could do. And he probably has high standards for what he wanted to do. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I dug the way they went about it. I went into that night expecting a "Piper's pit" type thing with the K.O. Show and got sucker punched by a no DQ match with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Kevin sold the hell out of everything Stone Cold did, and Steve was doing crazy shit taking drops on concrete. It's was unexpected and it was awesome!

Makes sense why they didn’t promote it since they didn’t know what it was gonna be given it was probably down to what Austin thought he could manage. If they built it up for weeks as stone cold coming out of retirement for one last match and then it was a couple of minutes of brawling people would have been pissed. Leaving it as a surprise meant whatever happened people were gonna be happy with it

Stone Cold wanted to make sure he was in good enough shape and could move around well enough to even do it. Cuz he didn't want it to look like a cash grab 1 minute match like with Goldberg. It was thrown together last minute, and I think Stone Cold only had like a month or so in advance to figure out if he could get back in the ring after 20 years.

Stone cold is from an era without scripts they called stuff on the fly. They might talk about high spots or the finish but never the body of the match.

They will have had plan A, B and C. A Full Match B Scrap/Stunner C Interview/Stunner But if they promoted A and turned out they could only deliver C then it would've been a disappointment for the fans. Better to promise C and deliver A

That match was bad, Austin did not belong in that ring as an active wrestler. I would have remembered how he went out to the Rock but now there's Austin vs KO and I'm glad Àustin and them had their fun. But it is up there with HBK Hogan lol
