Each day and every moment of someone’s life can be an inspiration for some other. Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, popularly and
lovingly known as Minion of Badminton has been inspiring young badminton budding players. Born on 2 August 1995, this 24 years old athlete has done wonders in the field of Badminton. Hailing from Indonesia, this man has a total of 259 wins and only 70 losses. He owes a total of 26 titles with many awards such as Athlete of the Year- 2018. However, the journey from zero to hero is never easy. Sukamuljo stated that there stood a badminton court next to his house and he used to watch his father played there. Eventually, he started gaining interest in the game and decided to go further with his passion. Later, he was shifted to Men’s Doubles. Sukamuljo started enjoying the Doubles Discipline and became a Doubles Specialist in 2012. Sukamuljo became a member of the national team probably in 2012. Since he had achieved success in almost every match he played. He was paired with Alfian Eko Prasetyo for the first time and played
the Men’s Doubles in the Asian Junior Badminton Championship in Korea and won the bronze medal in 2012. In 2013, he played with Masita Mahmudin in Mixed Doubles and won a silver medal in the BWF World Junior Championships. Yet again in 2014, he changed his partner and played with Selvanus Geh and won the New Zealand Open. Sukamuljo is now a sharing a perpetual bond with Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and has reached heights of success being together. They happened to face a lot of complications at the dawn but eventually, they became comfortable with each other and have won many titles together. They are together called ‘The
Minions' as this pair's heights happen to be less than the average height of badminton players. Kevin, possessing 26 titles, has managed to bring Bronze and Silver in Junior Championships both
playing individual and in a team. In Asian Junior Championships, he won a bronze medal in 2012 in the Boy's Doubles category at Gimcheon. In 2013, he won two bronze medals in Boy’s Doubles and Mixed Team respectively at Kota Kinabalu. In World Junior Championships, 2013, he won two silver medals in Mixed Doubles and Mixed Team respectively. In the year 2015, he participated in the Southeast Asian Games and managed to win one gold medal and one silver medal in Men’s Team and Men’s Doubles respectively held at Singapore. In 2015, he even won a bronze medal in the Sudirman Cup held at Dongguan for a mixed team. In 2016, he won a silver medal in the Thomas Cup held at Kunshan for
Men’s Team. In 2018 again, he played for the Thomas Cup held at Bangkok and won the bronze medal for Men’s Team. In 2018, he won the gold medal for Men’s Team in the Asian Team Championships held at Alor Setar. In 2018 Asian Games, he won a gold medal and a silver medal in the Men’s Doubles and
Men’s Team respectively played at Jakarta. Kevin and Gideon were awarded the BWF Best Male Players of the Year for two years in a row. They together have collected seven Superseries Titles in 2017 and nine World Tour Titles in 2018. Their Superseries Titles include World Superseries Finals, Hong Kong Open, China Open, Japan Open, Malaysia Open, India Open, All England Open all in 2017 and China Open, Australia Open, India Open in 2016. They were runners up in the Korea Open and Denmark Open in 2017. Their World Tour Titles follows Indonesia Masters and Malaysia Masters in 2019, Hong Kong Open, Fuzhou China Open, Denmark Open, Japan Open, Indonesia Open, All England Open, Indian Open and Indonesia Masters in 2018. They happened to be the runners up in the French Open in 2018. He even won four Grand Prix titles, which are, Indonesia Masters along with Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pankaryanira in 2016, Malaysia Masters along with Gideon in 2016, Chinese Taipei Masters with Gideon in 2015 and New Zealand Open with Selvanus Geh in 2014. Other than that Sukamuljo and Gideon were runners up in Chinese Taipei Masters in 2015 and Indonesia Masters in 2014. He won two International Challenges which include Bulgarian International and Vietnam International in 2014 with Selvanus Geh. He was the runner-up in the Singapore International in partnership with Lukhi Apri Nugroho in 2011. Kevin and Gideon’s achievements have exceeded the double achievements of Indonesian legendary sons, Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan. Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo has yet to give a lot more to his passion and career in the near future along with inspiring millions of young Badminton hearts of the world.
