Availability is another big factor. It’s now early January when I ordered my dji goggles 2 radio transmitter back in November with the hopes I’d be able to discover FPV over the Christmas break

Great video. Best thing I ever did when I first started was bought a second hand 5” didn’t fly it properly for the first year, only did sim. Then gradually would practice. I also think building your own will help in the long run as if somthing is too fail you should be able too work it out as you’ve built it yourself. Love the video man

As a total Newb I really appreciate this video! It stopped me from thinking I have to go ALL OUT and buy the whole enchilada - so NOW I know I can start with a controller and sim to start - PERFECT!!! I also know when it becomes time to move I will be building my drone (thankx again!) so I know how to fix it (I am kind of hard on thing, so yeah), will want digital goggles and will get a Cinewwhoops to start! This answered SO MANY Qs I had about how to start that I will actually be able to take the first step today!!! You are awesome!

I thought it would be cheaper, but I understand the materials like motors and the main board have good quality, and the goggles and remote controller last for years. I loved your comment about learning how to fix the drone. I think that is the key to spending less money on it because the drone will break a lot of times (it's inevitable) and you will save a lot of money fixing it on your own.

One thing I found when starting fpv was how vital it is learning how to land as it’s something that is obviously lacking from the simulator process. I’m quite confident with flying now, but learning how to land back on a landing pad is proving difficult. I’m just disarming my quad when it’s in my general location and then walking a couple meters or whatever to collect it. And learning about lipos and voltage etc is really important as well. I learned acro via the Avata and Dji Fpv, and recently upgraded to a Bob57 03 with crossfire, and am considering getting either the cinelog 35 v2, or cinebot 30.

I remember running an FPV setup in the 90's for RC racing. Wireless SD camera with a CMOS sensor (not even a CCD). Maybe 200m range max and with occasional static. Goggles were 640x480, and to record footage, I had to hook up a camcorder. Now everything comes in a single package. No need to invent contraptions, and it's all relatively cheap. Plenty of replacement parts. They made it easy for people to get into drone operation. I've had a number of them over the years. I had a chance to learn them though practice, but if I was just starting from scratch, I would've gone with a simulator for sure. Back when I started piloting, they didn't exist.

I started flying fpv in the End of 2022. At first i wanted to go analog because of the cost. At first i ordered the radio. Which took longer to be delivered than the drone parts so i had a drone without a radio. I wanted to buy the Fatshark attidude goggles but they were sold out everywhere. so i had to come up with a different plan. and that turned out to be more than double the price of the attitude goggles. I bought the DJI goggles because the O3 arunit got presented and i knew that if i build a 5" next year it would fly with the O3. Then i had to solve the analog problem. That got solved with the BDI Digidapter and a Rapidfire module. Afterwards i'm a little sad that i didnt just put a caddax vista in my QAV-s mini but if i want to i can fly everything no matter if it is analog or digital and i think that is a big plus. Yes the HD Zeros are out now but now that i have those i think i wont switch goggles that fast. Update: I flew in the sim for about a year before buying first parts. I watched Steeles videos and was blown away by the flying. I bought the DRl Sim on a sale for 7€ and started on an xBox controller. After getting my Radio I probably did about 10 hours of flying in the sim before trying LOS. i had a little accident where i lost orientation in LOS because i was to far away and crashed it into a wooden bench. Bend a motorshaft and had to straighten it. After getting the first dji goggles i send them back because the had damaged pixels right out of the box and then on the 25. of december i had my first fpv flight. it was 35seconds long and i was shaking of adrenaline. Then i had a little incident where i landed in a wet spot and fried my 5v regulator on the FC. bought a new one and never going to fly in slightly wet conditions ever again. since than i have had some crashes but didn't even bent a prop. So far i had a lot of fun and still trying to learn new tricks in the sim but I'm to scared to try them IRL, i'll get there...
