Brilliant video , I've bought one of these and am going to do it on all my cars . "Sealed for life" is a stupid term , fine for people who only keep their cars for a few years but we run ours into the ground. I own a needle just like that and was motivated to try it after watching your video. A few months ago I replaced my lower ball joint with a Duralast ball joint. After driving in heavy rain recently, it sounded like a rusty door hinge every time I turned steering wheel to the right. Boot was not torn and it was firmly in place. I pumped some grease just like you did, sealed the hole with RTV and now the noise is gone. Most importantly this helped me diagnose my problem without spending extra money. Thanks for making the video.

I keep 3-4 of these needles on hand because it's easy to break or bend them when pushing them through the rubber boot. After sealing the needle hole with silicone seal I spray some armorall or stp protectant on the boots to keep them from getting brittle and cracking and falling apart. I don't want to change ball joints or tie rods ever if I can avoid it.

I just drill a small hole and install my own grease zerk fitting inside . It works with vehicles and riding mowers. And wouldn't take much time and effort then it would to pierce the boot just make sure you get all the metal shavings out of the hole before installing. But if the boot was already damaged then this technique would work just as well. 👍

Moog is junk now!! Federal-Mogul sold Moog to a Chinese manufacturer, (Tenneco I believe) and quality has slipped VERY badly. Parts won't even last a year. Truly garbage. You don’t want to buy ANY chassis, suspension, etc. parts made in southeast Asia... period. Back in the golden years, Moog parts were manufactured solely in the USA, people wrongly assume that is still true today. All the brand names are Chinesium now, including Raybestos, Wagner, NAPA Premium, etc. If OEM parts are not an option, look into NAPA's 'Chassis' line (made in the USA by Dana/Spicer). Costs 3x more but much better quality than Moog.

Those needles are for slip yoke joint greasing I thought. Just drill and tap a hole in your ball joint and add a grease zerk.

The steel drill chips will destroy them

@@iamher6422 no they will not. As you drill, the drill bit pulls the chips out by design. And if someone is worried about when you finally break through and chips falling in, just have a shop vac on during this process. I’ve been doing this for years and can assure you that is incorrect.

@@hillbobaggins I own lathes, millers, and wood lathes, as well. I’ve been machining for decades. Chips will always fall through. Maybe you’ve been lucky thus far, but I wouldn’t risk it... jm2s

@@iamher6422 yeah no problem. But seriously, a ball joint is ridiculously strong. Imagine what they go through on a daily basis. It’s just a ball and socket joint lubricated with extremely thick grease. How would tiny tiny chips (and few at that) introduced inside destroy them? I’m beyond confused at this logic. Not trolling; genuinely interested in your thoughts.

I really dont think this works to well you punched holes in the boot and now the grease will leak out and dirt will get in. On the jeep when suspension parts ware out I replace them with parts that allow you to grease them
