A lot of people comment on which way musicians wear their headphones, but most musicians are more concerned with which side the cord is on rather than which is "left" and "right".

AboveNine Everyone around SST in the mid-80’s were enamored by Dinosaur Jr. Even though Black Flag ended right before Dino made YLAOM, Henry was still on the scene. I’ve seen/heard quotes from various people who were involved with SST at the time who all said that Dino was blowing everyone’s minds at the time, especially since a lot of the SSTA people had become big time stoners so they loved their heavy, noisy, psychedelic aesthetic combined with great hooks. That’s why I love Dino Jr- I’ve always been drawn to the great bands who in some way combined catchy hooks with noise and dissonance. SSTA had some of the greatest bands ever who had that as a big part of their aesthetic, i.e. Huskers, Meat Puppets, Dino Jr, etc.

Two comments: 1. I saw the Dinosaur in Boston during the first tour of the reunited lineup. Loudest show I've EVER heard--20 feet from the stage, and my friend's long hair was actually blowing backward. CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW LOUD IT WAS IN THIS STUDIO?! 2. Murph visited my old band's rehearsal space just prior to said reunion tour (long-ish story) and I got to play "Little Fury Things" with him. Even on a beater drum kit, the guy sounded like John Bonham. Murph is rock's most underrated drummer!

Hearing these songs again 30 years later immerses me in memories of college. Playing Music, painting outside on the porch, smoking Export A cigarettes, drinking Blue Heron Ale while doing some powerfully potent drugs with incredibly beautiful friends. All this while having exciting experiences and new fun sex with nearly every girl & guy😉 I could hold a smile with.. which was many. I find it hard to frame the levels of love I had for life back then...At 19 I gave life and everyone I knew in it my all,..I’m not always thankful I survived it,...the painful part of surviving intense years in life is looking back at all those I so deeply loved who didn’t survive. I try to live my life now in remembrance of theirs....in the hope that my doing so reflects the very best parts of the love they graced upon me.

I'm from the UK and really need to visit Seattle. I've never posted anything negative on websites before. But I'm 58 and have been watching live bands since 1977. I've seen pretty much seen every band I've wanted to see (In the 70s and early 80s Black Sabbath and Rush used to play in 2,000 seaters in Manchester UK). I saw Dinosaur Jr at the End of the Road festival in 2013. I left the gig nearly in tears. I've never seen a band who gave the impression that thay really didn't want to be there and play. I'm sure it was a one off but I was really looking forward to seeing them.

Clearly the camera person doesn't know who J Mascis is. Couldn't find him when he started singing, couldn't find him when he started talking, didn't realize the guitar solo was coming from the guitar. "Ooh guitar solo, let's check out what the bass player is doing."
@ogCharaLM
@ogCharaLM 8 жыл бұрын
+Jeff Elliott Hey, if you couldn't tell a bass from a guitar, and you knew an insane solo was coming from someone, would you suspect the man that hasn't aged a day in 30 years and is jumping around like a maniac, or the weird old statue that somehow learned to sing? Then again, said camera person had trouble finding J when it came to the interview section, so maybe they just didn't like his face or something.

+Jeff Elliott The camera was just following its own cavalier path, no regard for the important aspects of the performance. There is no explaining such things. You can't really compare Bach to Rachmaninoff. Yes, they are both composers in the classical tradition. But Bach's music is unmistakable, even indelible; while Rachmaninoff skips around like a schizophrenic, all spontaneity, no recognizable, reusable theme. My point is that the camera person is probably a sheep following what he thought was some extended theme of the chaos of the early 90s. In trying to break new ground he just became super stupid. J Mascis rocks. You can only go so far with chaos and then it just becomes pitiful. Mascis took music of the time and put it out on the frontier, the maximum it could travel and still be relevant. The camera person was aping that instinct and came up an ape, over-extended, clumsy. Talentless-Rachmaninoff took his lens and f***ed up.
