Very inspirational story. I had two haemorragic strokes at the age of 4 and a half, also a traechotomy in 1969. I was in the coma 3 weeks. I am now 54 and a half. I live alone. I work since the age if 20. I studied special education and was 26 years a special education teacher. I learnt sign-language with one hand (american sign language, french sign language and israeli sign language) with one hand. I just love the language abd wanted to learn it. Anyway, great story. WOW, what an inspirational lady, Having suffered a stroke 16 months ago albeit not as serious Kates I can certainly relate to a lot of what she say's ,My knowledge of strokes was very limited before the life changing event happened, I know in my case the symptoms were nothing remotely like the TV adverts describe, but soon after leaving hospital I decided my recovery was going to be down to self motivation , which I still believe to be true , Good luck to all survivors

brilliant chat, I was a nurse before my stroke and I totally agree with what you had to say. I had my stroke 9yrs ago and its so different to hear what its like from someone whos had a stoke themselves.

we have a close friend who was in a motorcycle accident over 6 weeks ago who has now been diagnosed with locked in syndrome.... this lady is an absolute inspiration for us all and gives us more than hope that he can pull through all of this with the support of everyone around him! kudos to you Kate you are a wonderful woman!

+KRB Tech My brother has been in a locked in state for a month after a brainstem stroke, He is about 20 to 30% aware on good days. He can blink and his legs, neck and arms are sometimes moving. How is your friend doing?

My poor mum was a spastic and she died in North Middlesex hospital.I miss you mum Gloria,

Thanks for all the comments everyone! Just always convinced that my willing - repetitively, frequently and intensively over around 400 X everyday 7 days a week. It helped having an obsessive personality driven by my separation anxiety from my kids. Good luck everyone! Keep the FIGHT!

+kate allatt My brother got locked in last year early December. After daily physio from me and my family he has recently started moving 3 out of his 4 limbs! He is lifting his right arm 15 cm in the air. It was his right side that was paralyzed after the brain stem stroke. You made me have faith and now it is paying off! He is not there yet, not by a long shot, but this is not what the doctors told us would happen. When there was absolute no strength in his arms jan 1st, he is now lifting his arm and putting it down, consciously. Tomorrow I will put an abdominal belt on his leg. The 3 volts will help activate his muscles. thank god for the internet and you!

Oh, great story Kate! I had a stroke in March at 45 years old and I hope one day to be well as you. Like you, people tell me I'm lucky to get this far but my, lofty perhaps,goal is total recovery. Great job and thanks for reinforcing the fact I should also think big.

I also had my stroke In March. I hope you are doing okay. I still go to PT & OT. As you know recovery is tough. I’m making progress but it has been slow. I wish you a full recovery

My mom had a hemicraniectomy due to ischemic stroke at 76. She's fighting her brain swelling. We feel you your story. We're hopeful

Oh yes this is Vicki Vogel I must tell you my plans are to walk and talk and dance I want to go on the Voice I will have to get signing lessons once I get my speech back but I know I can do it Kate thank you I now want to live again I was a great dancer and gymnasts maybe I will do a video to thanks again Kate I love you you've given me hope when I had none left ❤️

On five years, I was 40 years age. I was a stroke "patient". My right side of body was screwed up, my speech was totaled, my left skull was frozen and my left hemisphere brain's superior longitudinal fasciculus WAS clogged up from a blood clots. Where was my pre-stroke Self? I used be a writer, lecturer and my body was strong & suppleness. Post-stroke, I'm stubborn, compassionate, peaceful... Now, I exercise & speak well. And, I am a listener.
