I love the "tightening the knot" analogy as a thought process just before the shot, regardless of which type of release. I'm scooping that.

My advice is this: before you try the hinge release you must and i say you MUST first make sure you have the right draw lenght, if you have half an inch of extra draw lenght you'll get confused and frustrated sometimes, so find your perfect draw lenght and then the hinge will be like a second nature!

I really appreciate all of your content ! After watching your reviews of the 2020 Bow lineups, I visited one of my local pro shops and shot the Black 5, VXR 31.5, Helix Turbo and the PSE NXT 33 & NXT 35. I ended up with the Mathews. Also went with some Axis 340 spine arrows, that you mentioned in your video. The guy in the Pro Shop, you, and now myself have a very high opinion of that combo.

Great video- what helped me a lot when drawing back with my hinge is to keep my pinky and ring finger angled towards the front of the bow when drawing back- keeping that forward angle will keep it from premature firing. Once you get used to it it’s easy

Been shooting with the Hinge for less than a week and already LOVE IT! I also threw a clear hair tie around the neck to keep it from flopping around and now it is quiet. I have shot a index trigger, thumb button, back tension (Silverback) and now this Hinge- to date best I’ve used.

This right here is why you are my favorite channel for archery. I've talked to many many archers and had them try to explain how to shoot a hinge. What I found is they (as well as myself) can't find a way of explaining it that makes sense. The way you broke that down made such perfect sense and was so easy to understand. You are my favorite archer. I'm in Washington state, might have to make a trip to Oregon just so I can have the opportunity to meet you in person. That would be so awesome!

Keep these videos coming. You are doing a fantastic job and helping many archers. I have gone back and watched almost all the videos and it has helped me identify some of my issues with inconsistencies. Even the simplest things as draw length. Thanks for the great information. Keep up the great work.

Great explanation. I just picked up a Scott Ascent release which I really like, but was struggling with it today trying to pull through the shot. Sometimes it would feel fine and other times I felt like I was going to pull the bow apart before it went off. The biggest issue through was trying to stay on target through the process - it was all over the place. And I have shot back tension for years although mainly with a thumb trigger release. I just tried a few blank bale shots in the garage using this method and it seemed to work fine. I just need to make sure I relax my hand and not my back so I stay up against the wall. Definitely need to practice this for some time before I call it good....but my first impression is it felt smooth and I was able to keep the bow a lot more steady through the process. Thanks brother !!

What I’ve been doing is using my Stan shoot off 3 finger thumb button as a hinge ,I pull back and rotate the release without your thumb on the button. And let down,I just do it to get the feel of rotation of the release.I’m basically pretending I’m shooting a hinge ,aim and rotate real slow and let down. I plan on buying the true ball sweet spot pro with the safety.it will be the first hinge I’ve ever tried.

I just started using the B3 ranger Hinge. The “oh shit it clicked” moment happens to me, I try to focus after and not let it shake me up kinda tough but fun new way to shoot. My first year of archery I could stack arrows, my second year got worse and now in my 4th year I had extreme target panic and I hope this will help that. It’s already making shooting Investing again!

Good video, I'm just learning to shoot compound after Olympic Recurve. I'm starting out with a TruBall Sweet Spot and it's totally different than finger shooting. The tip about relaxing the index finger to release helped a lot, sometimes I seemed to get stuck and couldn't get the release to fire. By the way, what's that shirt supposed to be, riding a bicycle with a deer head on your back?

At the 9:05 mark...this was me transitioning to a hinge back in March. It was a tough learning curve at first. I was doing exactly what you mentioned here with a release hand that was way too tense and when the shot wouldn't or should I say couldn't break I got nervous and just yanked through the shot with my ring finger...it sucked!! I watched this on Saturday and immediately tried your technique and was AMAZED how well the shot breaks!! I do however physically rotate the release slightly at anchor to get to the click, then start relaxing my palm and index finger until the shot fires. Is this okay or do you start relaxing even up to the click? GREAT, GREAT VIDEOS....LOVE THEM ALL....SO INFORMATIVE!!

Kellan I wonder if you could help point me to some hinges similar to the Scott ascent. I shot one of the b3 units and the thumb peg dug into my neck. Awesome hinge video!! It's great to see another left handed shooter!! I just purchased a SCOTT ASCENT back tension release and have been using my trainer to get used to it before taking a shot. The main worry is accidentally rotating my hand on the draw and punching myself in the face lol!! But I have it set pretty stout and the adjustable click is very useful for me. Thanks for the in depth review and information on hinge releases. This is by far the best video I've watched on complete hinge training start to finish. I've been watching Steven Hann in Australia for a while now and his hinge vids are kinda vague on technique. I friended him on Facebook but he won't return my messages with just simple archery questions. Anyway, thanks for the great video. They help alot more than you realize!! are you shooting a mathews pro comp? I've been looking for a lefty for quite a while. NICE!!!!! thanks again brother!!! 🎸🎸🎸

Just got mine yesterday. It's my second hinge as I've owned the Fulkrum Flex for a week before this one. So far, I love it and how comfortable it is. It seems to be the common factor for most people who have used it. I just wish that I had bought the Brass version instead of the Aluminum. I don't much like the feel of the Aluminum (the finishing). It also feels so light that it almost feels flimsy. I'm seriously considering exchanging it for the Brass, but I just don't want to go a couple weeks without it while I'm exchanging...

Thank you for another great video. One nitpick, your explanation about the after affect of releasing does not match the movement you demonstrated during the video. I have seen this in several of your video's. You talk about the wild people who fling there arms wildly after the shot, but it does not have to be really big motions to be to much motion. Like so many coaches I see (myself included), we tend to exaggerate the motion while saying the actual motion is small.

One of my hinge releases can be changed so you either have the click or you can turn a piece inside that makes it completely quiet. I chose the latter so the click wont scare a deer away.
