Love, Love, Love this...Thank you for memory lane for sure. This is when the Keys and Key West I think were at their Best. You could drive down the Hwy, and see the beautiful water the whole way..(Except for like Marathon and such) My family is from Key West and I have been going for years and lived there a couple of times. I even saw my Grandpas Standard oil sign at the Shrimp Boat docks..(Sand Marine Station) So miss those times. Many Thanks for this...Karen Kincaid Heath.

I was born in Marathon, May 19 1962, and still live here today. I love this video! It really brings back memories of how things were growing up here. Thank You!

Lived in Key West in 1970-75 and just recently went back to Key West. This brought back memories of how the Keys especially Key West was. Now it looks like the typical tourist spot (palm trees-really!) Thanks for sharing.

Great home movie. The 8mm home movie camera was a staple back in the 1960's. My first trip to Key West was in 1969 when I was 9 years old and my parents took me there. There is a segment in the movie where we see the window crank for the car for about 10 seconds. That cracked me up. My mother had a habit of always filming something obtuse like that in every home movie she ever made! Thanks so much for sharing. It brings back fond memories.

I was born in Key West in March of 1966. My father Joe Valdez drove the Conch Tour train for many years starting in 1964. I am sure I see him walking by in the background starting at 2:27 in the video. Lots of good memories come flooding back watching this.

I replied to you before I think. I drove CTT when Joe was there. Nice man. We became fed up with what KW has become and left there 18 months ago after 30 years there. Money and greed ruined the place.

And I do believe that could’ve been Joe in the red shirt. Much younger and ‘taller’ then! He he.

I can feel a certain sense of sympathy for the folks who knew Key West back in the day before it became what it is. Still a fabulous place to unwind for a while, but I for one would not care to live there. Way to expensive and crowded.

I wonder how could 2 cars fit passing each other in the old 7 mile bridge the only good thing is the new overseas highway but better roads unfortunately bring a lot of indecent people who leave trash , traffic and pollution , I love the way it looks in this video.

Semis were later restricted to one way traffic directions after too many of them had mirrors and other thing damaged by them going both ways at the same time.

I first visited key west in 81 or 82 that I can remember. The 7 mile bridge was just completed. This video show the old bridge still being used and the southernmost point location which the famous monument pillar wasn't built yet. A magnificent video into the past. I suppose super 8films were popular.

Great to see. I traveled across those bridges when dad went to Key West for the Navy. Later, went across the new bridges when I took dad to the Naval Hospital or to the Base Exchange. Was told by the base security I needed to get base stickers put on my pickup truck. Never took the truck down there again and took dad's car instead from then on. The reason for the guard telling me that, was because dad was a retired Master Chief. They wanted it known who was riding in the vehicle. He wasn't even allowed to put the stickers on his own vehicle as the Senior Chief would not hear of it.

That's a funny story and pretty awesome that your dad was Master Chief

@@brianduke6968 He made Master Chief en route to a ship off Africa in 1964. He got the news and hat and collar devices when he arrived on the plane in Brazil. An Admiral sent them. We have a copy of the message in his folder. It did cause a bit of a problem when he got to the ship as the ship's copy of his orders said Senior Chief and as such would have bunked with the others. As a Master Chief, they couldn't let that happen so he was moved into a cabin in officer's territory. In the Navy, an E-9 is also responsible for providing " guidance and training" of enlisted and officers up to the O-6 level. The highest Navy officer on his cruise was an O-4.

Thanks for that information! Most of my granddad's old films tend to cover multiple locations and I can't always tell when it changes.
