I bought this switch pads for my q3. It's the pe foam switch pads made out of IXPE. However the profile isn't that marbly. So what I did was I take an actual PE foam about 0.5mm and place it over the switch pads and tape modded it. Remove case foam and plate foam. And tada, it became marbly and creamy. Basically the game changer is the PE foam. Save your money on the switch pads, just use PE foam. In fact thicker PE foam like 1mm, will give an even lower creamy sound. Tape mod also wouldn't really do much if u have pe foam on your pcb. The tape mod will just make it abit louder if u have pe foam on the pcb already. Without tape mod, the creamy sound still exist.

I think the pads made the sound more consistent. Also it seems like the slight clacky sound is reduced after using the pads.

If you watch other videos with the KBDfans pads, you can tell it doesn't sound near as poppy compared to PE foam. PE foam can also be found for free.

@@happylittletrees8130 yeahs that's what I realized as well, but perhaps, because the ping or the sound of the stock Q1 is already very loud, so having the pad reduces it better than the PE foam versus other boards like GMMK pro where is it already "dead" sounding board? Not sure about this, but since I'm getting the Q1 instead of other board like GMMK pro, I'm going with the switchpads.

@@happylittletrees8130 The KBDfan pads are a good alternative if you already got a board with the PE foam. Otherwise all your boards sound too alike.

you only added the switch pads and lube and film the gateron reds? wow, the sound is amazing, i watched a bunch of video and almost all of them show the pe foam mod makes a better sound and the switch pads don't make that much of a difference. but yours sounds amazing

Yep, thats to be expected. I didnt tune the stabilizers at that point. wasn't until a week or two later that i tweaked them a bit.

You could just add PE Foam into any board and your board will sound like the jelly epoch (not quite the same but PE Foam makes every board basically sound the same)

Have you tried different switches with the pads? I had the PE foam mod with gateron black ink and the typing feels a little too soft for me.

for this specific video. only the mods listed in the description. I've done other mods in my previous videos of the Q1. I found the plate foam underneath the plate.

I got switch pads, foam, silicon sheets, force break mod and it still pings some , the original run used extremely lightweight aluminium which is the main problem - I think they have used denser stock for more recent runs, but they won’t sell just the new improved case for buyers of the original run, which is kinda meh IMO, won’t buy keychron again Typing is really nice, it’s just a shame about the pings and with the amount of dampening you need to put in, the flex is pretty much gone

I appreciate the efforts ot mod the board, but if you are going to compare it to a Jelly Epoch, put them side by side and actually compare them on the same mic in the same test environment. Otherwise, how does it show the Q1 sounding like a Jelly Epoch?

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing as to whether it sounds like a Jelly. Just can't make any sort of informed opinion on it unless you put them side by side.
