Great information, easy to understand. I did the same test years ago, rolling the windows down FIRST. My 99 Tacoma, wouldn't lock the door if it Wasn't running but with key in ignition, like the Matrix. It was totalled when a Tesla t boned it. My 2007 Infiniti, put the key in the trunk, grabbed two arm fulls of stuff, shut the trunk. Car beeped at me and popped the trunk back open. Good to know how things work.

"you might want to roll down the window first" That's probably the best advice in this whole video. Honestly, there are many people out there that won't even think about doing that they would just toss their key in there and not even consider what might happen. Since I'm old school I used to always keep a spare key in my wallet. Nowadays, I just have AAA coverage if I have a problem like that where I'm locked out I can call them and they'll come out and unlock my car for me. One time I was out and about with a friend of mine in his car and he locked his keys inside so I called AAA to come out and in fact they used the bladder and a long adjustable rod exactly like you are doing it here. When you think about it with all the technological advancements they have made in automobiles the absolute worst and weakest link in the chain after all this time is still the battery.

a little trick I used to do (having a 2011 Mazda CX-7) was to detach the buttons part (remote control) of my key fob and leave it in my pants pocket all the time and forget about it (until I’d need it to open the car in case I’m locked out or something) and always use the metal part for my daily uses. You’re probably asking why I don’t do the opposite and use the remote control for my daily basis ? Well that’s to prevent thieves from intercepting my key fob signals, copy them and then come later and steal my car ! So to recap : I keep the spare key at home and use the main key as 2 keys : 1 for daily uses, and the 2nd as a spare key that stays attached to my body all the time ; I don’t put it in my phone or purse coz I may forget the phone/purse themselves in my locked car.

Get a copy of your car key cut at a hardware store. It won’t start the car in modern cars because it won’t have the fob that signals the ignition. But it will work for the door. Put it in a magnetic hide-a-key under the fender.

Even if you have a newer vehicle that needs the remote so that the car will start, you can still have a plain key cut so at least you can open the door to get your keys. Many places will say, oh, you have to have the remote, nope. Plus, a plain keys is easier to put in your wallet, or if you use one of the magnetic key holders, if they find it, they may open the door, but it won't start, (unless you left your keys in the car)

I do roadside assistance and help with 15+ lockouts. Toyotas are the only vehicles that do not lock when the key is in the ignition. The rest don’t and yes, no matter how old or new it is, it WILL still lock you out. I would highly suggest getting a second key because if you own an American, Japanese, German or a Korean car then chances are it could lock you out.

I purchased a similar kit, but to help others. But the only way anything is going to help you get into your own car is if it is accessible to you. Those tool sitting in your trunk will do no good with getting you back in your own car. I used to lock my keys in my car quite frequently and then I got smart (and disciplined ). I made two 3x5 cards that reminded me to put my key in my pocket before standing up. One for the windshield and one for my driver's side window. To my surprise, it only took a week to train myself and I never locked them inside again. I don't even have to do it anymore with my vehicles but I still do it by habit. Huge problems can be solved with small disciplines.Try it and see. You will shock yourself how well it really works and what little effort.

I used one for years without fail, but my last one made its way to my exhaust and melted:) Guess because I went over too many bumps too fast for way too long without checking on it:) Anyways, a few months ago I drilled a small hole through a piece of framing/metal underneath my car, ran a bolt through it followed by my key (drilled a hole in my key too to fit over the bolt) tighten it all up with a wingnut BAM! Fixed the issue I believe:) HA!

When I worked security at a bank's central cash vault, we always had a couple of wire coat hangars on hand, bent in a couple different ways, for unlocking vault employee's car doors. Which we had to do, about every other week... As for motorcycle batteries? My 2018 Harley Freewheeler trike still has it's original battery. Mainly because, if I'm not going to be riding it for a while - like, say, in the Indiana winter? It's hooked up to a Deltran Battery Tender. Which monitors the battery constantly, and always keeps it fully charged. If I'm snowed in, and it's stupid cold - and going to be for several days? I have a compact Battery Tender that can sit under the hood, next to the battery. I love those things...

You dont need a "kit", go to menards where they sell doors and they have the exact same bladder bag thing in two sizes. They sell them for leveling doors when you install them yourself. Same exact thing except the menards one is actually made in Denmark for some reason....probably lasts longer than one 从中国. I have two of the smaller ones (same as in the video) they work amazing. For a wire I use a muskrat stretcher that I cut bottom stuff off....probably four times thicker than a coat hanger and works really well too.

@@cathycraig1301 Pardon me.... A muskrat FUR stretcher, so it dries out, after you skin it, before you sell it, so they can falsely call it a mink, make a coat out of it, and sell it for $10,000, so somebody else can steal it, by breaking into a car, with a muskrat stretcher....thingy. Happy?

In my older Camry, you can just pull the inside handles from outside, and it mechanically unlocks the door lock automatically. But only works for the front doors

i like to "tie" a spare under the vehicle where i can reach it without crawling under , wire that you can manipulate by hand works best for keeping the key in place , has been working for me many years ;-)

I used to keep a spare key in my wallet back when they were thin, flat keys. Now I keep two keyrings in my pocket with keys to both cars on both rings. The last time I locked my keys in the car, before carrying two key rings, I used a wedge shaped wood door stop to hold the car door gap open and a 5 ft piece of rebar to stick through the gap to push the electric door lock button.

Lost my key fob somehow. I walked over to our shop and the mechanic had the same thing to spread my door open wide enough to "snag my door handle" with a clothes hanger to open it. My key didn't work in the key hole for some reason

I have a hidden house key in my shed. I showed my son where it was. I told him if you ever get locked out these a spare to get in the house. I also said, “This key NEVER goes inside! Open the door, and hang it back where it belongs.” Well you can probably already guess where this is going. My son called me a few months later. “Dad I got locked out of the house.” I said “No. remember there’s a spare key in the shed.” He said “The key is gone.” “How’s it gone?” He said “I can see it but can’t get to it.” “Where is it?” “It’s on the kitchen counter where I left it.”

The only reason cars don’t use lithium ion batteries is due to all the heat in the engine compartments, not a lack of power. Some cars with trunk mounted batteries are using lithium ion.

As to having another key ready to get inside, it DOESN'T have to be a "coded" key, Just a cut key to unlock through the door key lock. So, for $2-$4, you can have an "extra" key to get in but if it's found, no one can drive it away because it's not "coded". It'll work on the door but not the ignition if your car still uses a key to start it. With keyless, it's still the same. All you want to do is get inside. If you don't think you have a key lock on your drivers door, many new cars have that lock hidden behind a plastic cover. Look for it. If you HAVE to leave your key in the car for any reason, LEAVE A WINDOW DOWN FAR ENOUGH TO REACH IN TO UNLOCK. If you cannot leave your window down, DON'T LEAVE THE KEYS IN OR THE ENGINE RUNNING.

I recently had a "senior moment" and set my keys down inside my trunk as I was loading my groceries and slammed the trunk closed.😳 I sat in the sweltering heat for nearly two hours waiting for AAA. The guy from AAA used a similar device and opened my car within seconds. I felt so stupid.🤪

Only works when you have that set nearby. E.I. you lock the keys in at the mall, etc and the pouch is at home - not much help. I got a reg key that just unlocks the door made at the locksmith, no chip etc and put that in the magnetic box under the frame. Saved my daughter a couple times already.
