Great video. Thanks a lot! With expensive equipment like this, for any hobby, it's important to know exactly how it will benefit you, and consider how often you need that benefit.
@themaconeau9 жыл бұрын
I have seen other reviews for the scope but you have explained it in a way that even though I'm a hobbyist, I want one >.< I would have to go with the digital data analysis options (RS232, etc) as that would be very helpful figuring out signals and timing. Just have to convince the CEO and CFO (wifey) to part with the hard earned :P Great review :)

This is, perhaps, the most thoughtful and in-depth review of an oscilloscope that I've ever seen! If every review on the internet were like this, I'd have easily been able to decide on a new scope months ago! Well done! Here's to hoping they lend you something for the budget-conscious in exchange for a nice meter or something!

Im not really into electronics, but here's a question. Is it common to sel just software upgrades and unlocks that dont really require hardware change? I thought you were supposed to put as much stuff as possible without limitations to make datasheet a rainbow of awesomeness for more sales, not limit it to get additional sales.

It seems that the PathWave BenchVue Oscilloscope Application is not able to keep the date/time (yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss) in sync between my Oscilloscope and my Laptop, e.g. the date and time shown on my Osilloscope is 10:12 AM Feb 18, 2022, but the date and time on my Laptop is 10:14 AM Feb 18, 2022. I want to make the date and time accurately synchronous between my Oscilloscope and my Laptop. How would i realize it? thanks.

Great review, I like the way you kept it short but still useful. Touchscreen is cool & new(for scopes) but it's useful only for the on screen keyboard.
@Afrotechmods9 жыл бұрын
That is how I felt before using it. Once you get used to it, you find that it actually noticeably adds to the user experience of the scope. It's just quicker to navigate the menus without moving your hand around twiddling different knobs. Granted doing something in 1.5 seconds instead of 5 seconds is not exactly life changing but after a while it just becomes a luxury you enjoy and I wasn't kidding when I said I started tapping the screen of my other equipment!

Nice 'looking' scope, except they don't have the memory to mark all events (as seen in your video). You also can't trust the measurements. For example do a single acquisition on a sine wave with lots of pulses on screen. Then do a rise time measurement on a gated region. Zoom in and out and you'll noticed the measurement changes a lot. That's because the measurements are on screen pixels and not waveform data. I can't trust this instrument. All Tektronix, Lecroy, R&S scopes perform measurements on waveform data. Much more trustworthy.

Little known fact you can also plug in a usb hub and plug in a usb keyboard and a flash drive at the same time. This should work on all the agilent / keysight scopes.

Look into a Hantek scope, I got one that was under $250 and covers 200mhz. It isn't a real fast or fancy scope but it works well and does anything that I have asked of it. DS5202P or you can get the 70mhz scope for less and hack it to 200mhz.

So I can pay some money and they will send me a software update that makes my scope faster? Shouldn't it already be at it's fastest speed?
@Afrotechmods9 жыл бұрын
Not faster, higher bandwidth. MHz in this context does not refer to processor clock speed, but to the analog bandwidth of the scope inputs. Here is a good explanation: blog.adafruit.com/2012/01/27/why-oscilloscope-bandwidth-matters/

It is unfortunate that Keysight and Tek are following the Path of Dec and IBM. Instead of working really hard to own the maker and diy crowd which is exploding, they are keeping up the margins, and letting China take the market. In the long run they will be sorry, and I am sure they will lower prices and try and compete, but it will be too late.

haha thanks ;) In my defense, I did try incorporate some information that I felt would be useful for beginners, such as an explanation of the benefits of 50R termination and active probes.

Afrotechmods That's great !
@St0RM339 жыл бұрын
Afrotechmods But you didn't explain what termination is for :s
@Afrotechmods9 жыл бұрын
St0RM33 Sorry, it's a bit much to explain in depth the concept of impedance matching and termination in the middle of a review. I recommend KZfaqrs "W2AEW" and "Applied Science" as they have excellent videos on impedance matching and termination.
@St0RM339 жыл бұрын
Afrotechmods I know about impedance matching but just barely. I'll probably google about this feature and learn more..either way like you said 50ohm termination shouldn't be available in entry level oscilloscopes so not much i can do :/
@amirb7153 жыл бұрын
Segmented memory was never a Keysight exclusive. My much older Lecroy WavePro has segmented memory when the brand name "Keysight" didnt exist yet. Older Tek DPO7000 also had segmented memory before Keysight 3000X came out.
@electronicatutorial9 жыл бұрын
Life sciences was growing faster and making less money?, If Keysight makes more money the right thing is to let them keep the name. Agilent separated from HP because HP computers was getting too large (making more) so they kept the name. Agilent is a much larger company with much more expensive equipment than Keysigh. I think Investors will more likely invest in Agilent than in Keysight. I hope to see nice gear in the future since they have more money now for R&D. Beautiful review and your voice ROCKS!
@amirb7153 жыл бұрын
segmented memory is not/was not a keysight exclusive. My much older Lecroy (from 2005) has segmented memory even though it has 16M/ch record length
@jamespeterson41255 жыл бұрын
So this is made by what has evolved from the old test instrument division of Hewlett Packard Co., because that is where Agilent came from.

I can’t help wondering how many people on the planet even understand what is being said here. What if there was a human extinction event like a rogue asteroid impact and all who possessed this knowledge were gone? What would future generations make of this beautiful piece of equipment? How many centuries would pass before this level of understanding was recreated?
@nheng69134 ай бұрын
Future generations would be sucking on the power cord and occasionally, scurrying out of their caves to get some bugs. The zone triggering, while very nice, won't be needed for some time.
