Ojai 1981 - Question #1 from Question & Answer Meeting #2
'I realise I act neurotically and I have had psychotherapy, but the neurosis is still basically there. What can I do?'
This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

Naming the nameless, shackles the brilliance, when are we going to understand we're so bounded by systems, ideologies, should-be, and must-dos, even to the regressive scale? Look at the new names that psychiatry invented since this talk 1981! ADD, ADHD, OCD, DD, PTD, Bi-polar, etc,etc and the psychotic drugs that we even give to the very young. Only by abandoning this self-centered ,self-created alienation and categorizing, can we realize majority of the suffering is self-inflicted and joy is our real nature. Thanks for posting.

many of Krishnamurti's talks are the same as the Buddha's teaching, Satipatthana, Mindfulness. Krishnamurti's talks very helpful and in simple language for us to understand to help us to free ourselves from the destructive self centered ego. A very good modern teacher

What is the crisis that makes me aware that I am neurotic? Good question. I should ask that to myself.

What I hear is that by not trying to change myself but by watching it, I am accepting myself. When I do that forgiveness happens automatically. So I don’t need to be different or feel different or feel anything or think anything. Can I look at myself?

Time ends when thought stops. Is there anything that is timeless, transcendent, eternal, beyond thought? If so it is in that place where there is no time and there is no thought. See you there!

Thoughts can never be stopped! That can happen only when there's no mind! There can be no mind ONLY when there is no brain! Because, mind is the phantom-shadow of the brain, the 'vocal' phantom-alter ego of the 'ever-silent' brain!

I wished Mr J Krishnamurthis knowledge which he shares in the form of more questions would give more clear cut answers bang on bullseye. I dont know if others share the same viewpoint after watching his videos.

He doesn't give any answers, ever. He is most scrupulous about that. He is completely opposed to any sort of authoritarianism and encourages every person to be their own teacher, their own master. Read up about his life. He was raised from very young until his mid twenties to be the head of a "new world religion". He was patterned to be somelthing like a Muhammed or a second coming of Christ. For years and years he accepted this training which was a global education of the highest order in philosophy, world religions, etc. The organization was created and funded and fully subscribed with adherents, followers. Rich people donated estates to the organization. It was global in scope and branched off from other well respected quasi-religious organizations like the Theosophists. On the day he was to accede to his position, when all the dignitaries and supporters from all over the world had gathered to initiate and welcome him, he walked away. He said never. I cannot do this. I cannot ever tell someone to follow another. He devoted his life to advising people, and trying to help them on that path, to look to themselves. Be a light unto your self. So, no answers. Only questions for you to ask yourself. Ideas for you to explore. He doesn't want to get into your head. He would like you to get into your own head. He believes you can run your own life once you *free* yourself from authority, think for yourself, examine your own life, look deeply into the human condition. Most people wouldn't be interested in doing these things, especially not today. However back in the 1970's the human being was a very different creature. We had not yet been acclimated to worship technology or to constant "entertainment" and gossip or to having to be confronted with the entire globe intruding on us via the internet incessantly, ceaselessly. People were interested in the human condition half a century ago. Now we are losing the use of language and going directly to images and symbols. The human condition is a happy face now. Best wishes.

Fearless Wings, how can the blind lead the blind... or make the fellow-blind 'see',ever? JK,ironically, makes those sitting before him analysts/psychotherapists, putting himself on the couch,as it were,in role-reversal... he was or his predicament was no different from that of those staring at him expectantly for life-changing answers! His one important suggestion as probable remedy was: just a moment before reacting to anything or anybody,STOP for that moment, and ask yourself 'why is the other person doing this or behaving like this??'.That questioning moment is called "awareness" or" being aware"!In that very moment you become immediately separated from your about-to-happen-reaction.At that point if you remove yourself physically and move on,there is possible vanishing of anger, bitterness or frustration, also possibly thwarting the accumulation of those!

@ Fearless Wings You are missing the point of Krishnamurti’s approach, if you’re looking for clear cut (bullseye) answers go to a psychotherapist or a priest for help. The questioner said in the question that they had tried that avenue, but the neurosis was still there and so the question was put to Krishnamurti. What to do and how to do it are conditioned ways of thinking that someone else knows the answer and when they tell you and you follow the advice it will help to manage the neurotic situation. Krishnamurti doesn’t fall into the trap of answering the questions, he shows that you can address your questions to yourself and the inherent intelligence of the properly phrased self questioning reveals it’s own answer. Rather subtle isn’t it?

The last sentence of JK in this video (whether it was the editor/director of this video who ended it there OR JK himself ended his monologue there,I don't know!)captures his very own and the entire world's continuing *Existential Despair* that will continue relentlessly for as long as the earth exists! Existentialism as a philosophical-remedial system already effectively answered how to deal with the ever-present and omnipresent existential-despair and how to keep its constant companions i.e neurosis, psychosis, depression, joylessness, deep void within, etc.at a stone's throw away space! One wonders why JK doesn't acknowledge nor gives credit to Existentialism in any of his soliloquies...!
