A close up view of my ham radio tower and tower stand. The tower is five sections of Rohn 25-G tower. The top section is 8 feet long making the tower approximately 48 feet tall.

I'm a retired structural engineer with retired licenses. The structure looks fine. Well thought-out. What I haven't been able to see is the anchor bolt pattern and sizes. Bolt pull out would be my primary concern for the design. I am a 75 year ham and my tower climbing days are done

Beautiful! Well done! I'm envious. Most hams are conscientious enough to take every precaution when erecting a tower. A quick search through KZfaq, though, will show that 'most' doesn't mean 'all.' Yours is a great example of a good one. Thanks!

Yea you might get cut in half. I use to have a Paul Buyan Whip 60ft tall round steel pole 6" at bottom and 3 at top. The plans are in old QST and I could lower it and raise it with rope. It was counter balanced with weight on bottom for the TH-6DXX and Ham M. No winch needed in that design. I had to push it to get it started to tilt over. Its in old QST article you can find on QST page.

Nice tower Dave. I have only been retired for a few months now but starting to focus on ham radio. I live in the city. I cannot put up a good HF antenna. I have purchased a used Hy-gain that I can install to work HF bands. It is only 21 feet. I have not been able to find a reasonable tilt base. I guess I will need to make one. Thanks for sharing.

I just picked up a used 24-ft tower that is very sturdy and I'm planning to create a tilt base that is on a cantilever hinge with a weight of bricks on the bottom so that the winch doesn't need to work so hard this would also lessen the hazard of it falling and hitting so hard..

Thanks for sharing your experience. I can't climb towers anymore so I was looking for alternatives. I didn't like some of the other setups that people have tried. I see where people made a tilt over mast. I thought why can't you do the same with a tower. I was thinking about designs and then I saw yours. I can't climb but I can weld.

Cool Tower. Congrats ! Don't stand in line with the Base Mount when you are winching it up and down. If any bolts fail ever, the base will shoot backwards and kill you. stand off to the side when winching it up or down. 73,

You would be smart to add a sway brace like 1\8 inch steel cable run through 1 inch square tubing standoffs say 4 inches out with a 1\4 inch hole all the way to the top of your tower ! Use a 3\8's turn buckle tied to the very bottom of the tower and you will eliminate all that bending of the 25g as you raise the tower . You also need to raise the height of the point of attachment on the tower at least 10 feet .

I really like your tower build You did a great job and it's beautiful and it looks like it works pretty well.. I'm curious if you had considered doing a cantilever style tilt over with a weight on the bottom? I'm thinking of doing just that but with a cantilever and a heavy concrete weight on the bottom so the winch doesn't need to work hard

Pretty Sweet design ! It’s sort of Funny on how many of these towers dont utilize a electric whinch and I couldn’t understand why someone didnt install one to make the procedure easier IMO they aren’t very expensive to purchase any more and it looks like all the manual designs need a small team to set up their towers ive always been a guy that likes to design things i can do by myself as that is part of the challenge on building or using whatever i build plus i dont need to rely on anyone as well

Looks great, most towers recommend bracketing at 10 feet, so if you made the errection tower 10 feet high at clamp area that would be perfect. One yard of concrete is ok if you are guying, I think free standing requires something like two yards for a crank up tip over fifty footer.

This erection device was designed for 50’ of rohn25 tower (max) lite antenna loading w/guy wires or 40’ freestand. Without knowing your skill level I highly recommend having a professional assemble your design. I believe overall height is about 10’. Remember all your angles of approach have to calculated for load and variance. Stay safe and good luck with your project
