In this video, David shows how to solve elastic problems the hard way. In other words, using conservation of momentum and conservation of kinetic energy, David substitutes one equation into the other and solves for the final velocities.

Physics on Khan Academy: Physics is the study of the basic principles that govern the physical world around us. We'll start by looking at motion itself. Then, we'll learn about forces, momentum, energy, and other concepts in lots of different physical situations. To get the most out of physics, you'll need a solid understanding of algebra and a basic understanding of trigonometry.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

More "the hard way" videos please! There's where all the fun of physics is!!

This was algebra, not physics. Of course physics is fun but nobody likes to solve a system of 10 non linear equations with 10 unknowns, it's what computers are made for. Physics is about concepts, computers and mathematics will do the rest of the job. If you enjoy the hard way (algebra heavy way) you should've studied algebra instead of physics.

God damn, it makes sense and you have explained it very clearly but it seems to complicated to be useful and to much working out to be useful xD The part where you explained AB^2 threw me off a little to be honest but otherwise very helpful.

Why am I getting 206.5 and -205.2 at 13:20 ??? I am doing (0.0906 + or - 27.34) / 0.1328 Edit: Never mind, I didnt square root it........

Why isn't Ki(tennis ball)=Kf(tennis ball)?
@robertleduc5553
@robertleduc5553 5 жыл бұрын
the two objects exchange some velocity. Think of it as if the golf ball was stationary, the tennis ball would have given away some of that velocity to the golf ball. In that case it is obvious the tennis ball will be slowed down and the golf ball sped up. Not as obvious when they are both moving initially

Man - you REALLY should not have rounded your result - it totally ruins the answer, because when you plug those resulting velocities into the kinetic energy formula, they are wildly wrong. This is why smart people fail math - because teachers take unexplained shortcuts which break the answers... Using -39 and 52 gives us 104.949 J, which does *not* equal the 102.65J we started with!!!

Less than 3J is “wildly wrong”

@@CryBaby-bq3kc This is a math instructions video - but it LITERALLY does not add up. Like I said - how are students supposed to LEARN this shit, when teachers make it IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to get a correct answer? It takes decades of experience to understand that 3J *might* be insignificant, and why/how your answer doesn't match the lessons - which is utterly unnecessary if the teacher had simply empathised with the skill levels of the students and make everything work out and be repeatable !!
