Physics on Khan Academy: Physics is the study of the basic principles that govern the physical world around us. We'll start by looking at motion itself. Then, we'll learn about forces, momentum, energy, and other concepts in lots of different physical situations. To get the most out of physics, you'll need a solid understanding of algebra and a basic understanding of trigonometry.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

9:07 consider that the type of field created was created by a positive charge so the negative charge will be attracted by the positive charge and deflected by positive charge

the farther the test charge is, the less electric force it gets, so does electric field equation only applies to a certain distance?
@yalingnatung900
@yalingnatung900 3 жыл бұрын
Theoretically, it can be applied up to infinity but practically yes it equation only applies up to some certain region.

If we take the test charge as a negative one ...... the definition of electric field lines in both the cases will contradict itself and we'll get the definition the other way around . 😕

Sir 1 question( yea i know its silly 😶) When our teacher teached potential difference in our class he said tht when 1 joule of work is done to bring 1 coloumb of *positive charge from infinity to a point in an electric field, then the potential of that point is said to be 1 volt Now my question is why it should be positive charge and why not negative? How will we bring tht positive charge from infinity

What if we keep negative charge as reference test charge for both cases. Then the line direction changes. So what is the correct one?

Nothing would change. A negative test charge always moves AGAINST the direction of the electric field. So in the case of the positive field you'd say that since the negative charge is moving towards the centre then the field direction must be the opposite, away from the centre (correct). In the case of the negative, since the negative test charge is moving away from the source, the direction of the electric field field be towards the source. Why did we decide that negative moves the opposite way? Just convention

@@suman5416 test charges are considered positive because it's just easier to think about that way. Sure you could arbitrarily have a test charge to be negative, but then you would basically have to redefine, say, the electron to have a positive charge. Again, "positive" and "negative" are just words. We arbitrarily pick whats positive and what's negative

Sorry, but there is written "Electric field direction | Electric charge, field, and potential" in the title, however you didn't speak about electric potential in this video. Did you?
@randyrichardson6953
@randyrichardson6953 7 жыл бұрын
There's a reason that the title of this video is separated by vertical lines. The first part of the title, "Electric field direction", tells you what the video is about; the second part, "Electric charge, field, and potential", tells you which series of videos it is part of; the third part tells you the academic subject; and the fourth part tells you that the video comes from Khan Academy.
