The rule of 5 for morph I think had a whole article around it because they didn't want to repeat Onslaught block's blowout situation! You can even see it repeated with MKM and the disguise mechanic

I think it's too early to tell whether they kept this 5 mana morph paradigm for MKM, but if it turns out they did, that's cool! Helps to slow down the format a bit.

@@gumbyflambe9013 The rule of 5 was implemented to solve major issues of combat with face down creatures. Foretell almost certainly didn't even consider it, but Disguise is just improved morph and is confirmed to follow it.

Used to run Ghostfire Blade in standard because devoid creatures also get the discount.

There was a standard rakdos devoid deck I ran with ghostfire blade.. endless ones, fore runner of slaughter, wasteland strangler, etc... was actually pretty dece and fun

I loved the Alara shard names when they came out and hated the Tarkir wedge names when they came out. But enough time has passed that I've gotten over it and love them all now. Go Wizards lore goblins!

KTK is what made me care about Magic again (with a lot of help from LRR), it's such a cool and fun set!

While it was draftable on Arena I just stopped playing LCI Limited and still don't regret it one small bit. Like, LCI is okayish to me, even despite its aggro nature, but Khans just... tops it by a large margin.

I loved Jeskai Prowess back in the day. I had lots of fun running cards like Dragonfire Twin, Icy Blast, Crater Claws, and a variety of other fun spells at the pre-release and taking that one by storm. Khans has to be one of my favourite sets. Efreeti Weaponmaster was an excellent card for ruining an opponent's combat math when mixed with other first strike or double strike creatures. First pick is either Sultai Charm or Ghost Fire Blade, possibly a lean on the blade just to see what is potentially open even though Sultai Charm is one of my favourite charms from that cycle.

Huh... it completely failed to occur to me that morphs are colourless so I never bothered with Ghostfire Blade in the recent Khans drafts on Arena.

Me too tbh, but then I had a game where my opponent played it and equipped it onto a morph and I wanted to pick it since... except I never seemed to get it afterwards :/

Pretty sure Ghostfire Blade was one of the better rares so I snap that up. Also Bloodfire Expert wasn't too great here but got a lot better with Fate Reforged and Temur Battle Rage. That was a fun deck.

That was my recollection too. It works into the curve so well, the removal is so bad, it doesn't put you in a color, and almost every deck ran a handful of morphs. I can't think of any uncommon I'd take over it.

After playing about a hundred of those Khans Arena drafts, I'd take the Ponyback Brigade. I loved trying the Mardu go-wide deck. Sometimes splashing in a nice Jeskai bomb.

Such a great set. Great block overall (though Fate Reforge was a bit less exciting if I remember correctly).

Fate Reforged was fine, the problem was if you didn't open a sick bomb since it was your first pack for draft you had a rough time. And it didn't have as much support for KtK packs since it was single/dual color focused more than the wedges from KtK. Add on top there was only manifest and not morph.... Still, first printing of Ugin was nice XD

Hey, don't knock Efreet Weaponmaster. I did 18 damage on Arena KTK Draft with a morphed Efreet Weaponmaster + a Dragon-Style Twins. Was one of the biggest blowouts I've ever done in Limited. Opponent was tapped out because they were also fond of my Dragon-Style Twins, casting Act of Treason and Defiant Strike on it.

The rule of 5 was that any creature that can unmorph for 4 or less couldn't have *power* greater than 2 (which is why that flying 0/5 defender can unmorph for 1). So you knew - in theory - how much damage at most a morph could do to you or your creatures, but you couldn't say what it's toughness or abilities were

No Graham was right, the rule was it couldn't win combat with a 2/2. So if it's power was 2 or greater, it would have 1 or 2 toughness (e.g. Canyon Lurkers was a 4/2 and unmorpherd for 3R).
