Khanum is a dish from Uzbek cuisine that consists of a thin layer of dough, usually made from flour, water and salt, and a filling of meat (usually beef or lamb), onions and spices. It is like a large, thin flatbread or pie. Khanum is usually prepared on a large flat baking sheet or in an oven.
Khanum may take some time to prepare as it takes time to prepare the dough, filling and baking. After preparing the dough, it is rolled out into a thin layer, then the filling is applied and covered with dough. Sometimes cuts or patterns are made on top of the dough so that Khanum bakes better.
Khanum can be served hot or cool, usually cut into portions. It is often served as a main course or appetizer at holiday or family dinners and celebrations. This dish is popular in Uzbekistan and neighboring regions of Central Asia and is one of the symbols of local cuisine.
