Khao Lak - Between the Andaman Sea and the Jungle.
During our two weeks stay at Khao Lak Laguna Resort we saw a lot of wildlife.
This is what I caught on camera.
1 Asian Water Monitor Lizard (Varanus salvator) big size
2 Unidentified small bird with nice call
3 Ants
4 Hermit-crab (Paguridae)
5 Asian Water Monitor Lizard (Varanus salvator) small size
6 Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis)
7 Oriental Garden Lizard (Calotes versicolor)
8 Crab (Brachyura)
9 Different Fish
10 Sergeant Major / Pintano (Abudefduf saxatilis)
11 Chinese Pond-Heron (Ardeola bacchus)
12 Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos)
13 Asian Water Monitor Lizard (Varanus salvator) medium size
14 Unidentified small bird in the rain
15 Unidentified small bird with nice call (same as #2)
16 Queen Weaver Ant (Oecophylla smaragdina)*
17 Squirrel (Callosciurus caniceps)
18 Oriental Magpie-Robin (Copsychus saularis)
19 Bowring's Supple Skink (Lygosoma bowringii)

And these are the ones I managed to capture in a showable way. There were more but the footage was bad due to light conditions etc. And in some cases I wasn't quick enough to capture. A wonderful trip to an exotic island !!! Interesting wildlife inhabitants live here... Charming little fish swim in the ocean. It is nice to see beautiful subtropical plants... A heavenly place !!! Hi Bertil, Thank you so much for this beautiful video. We like to go to Thailand for a month at the end of the year. This year I am planning 2 weeks in Khao Lak and 2 weeks at Cape Panwa on Phuket. This will be our 1st visit to Khao Lak. Wildlife spotting is very important to us, so once again, many, many thanks xxx

Thanks for watching and thanks for your kind comments and support! I'm glad you lied the video. There are lots of Common Menas in Thailand. They are everywhere. It's a nice bird and it's easy to teach them new calls. After filming one of the birds in the film I played the sound to him. He started to go in a circle around our table when he heard his own call and didn't stop until I switched of the sound. Have a nice weekend!

Very nice Bertil. A lovely video with nice relaxing music. Great footage of all the wildlife including the underwater views. That giant ant at the 3:33 mark on the sun glasses looks scary. I don't imaging you would want to tangle with the red ants in the ant hills around the 1:20 mark either. Thank you for sharing.

Not with the big one and not with the crowds in the ant hills either. And for sure not with the big lizard in the beginning. The hotel staff told us that a guest had tried to feed the big one and got bitten in the hand. When staying at this and other resorts in Khao Lak you are literally in the jungle and it's amazing to see all these animals getting on with there lifes and not bothering about us. @@Bertil_Lundin I imagine that would be treat to stay at a resort like this. I however am a sucker for punishment, I'm in the the middle of booking a trip to Chernobyl ! and touring the concentration camps at the end of Sept, and back to Japan in August to See Hiroshima for a second time. I love the Jungle, but it scares me... we have almost no bugs in our cold Canadian summers... and Chernobyl doesn't scare for the record, so the beautiful animals almost enough to to think of a jungle vacation in 2020!

Interesting! I wouldn't choose Chernobyl as a vacation destination...but the camps and Hiroshima is very interesting to see. I was in Japan (mainly Tokyo) on a business trip in 2000 and it's very different and interesting to see and experience.

DJI Osmo+: The intro, the Ant Hills, the first 2 clips of the small Asian Water Monitor Lizard, the Chinese Pond-Herons, the Common Sandpiper, the first bird in the rain and the end sequence with the Palm tree. DJI Osmo Pocket: The Hermit-crab. GoPro Hero 6 Black: The underwater clips. iPhone Xs: The rest. Since they all film in 4K the quality is rather good. I've spent most of today trying to figure out the names of all the animals (Google and Wikipedia and hundreds of photos) but I couldn't find it for some of the small birds and for this insect. It's huge. It can be a kind of Ant or a Spider but I don't know. If I get the information I will update the list in the discription. Wishing you a nice week!

It has 6 legs, so it can’t be a spider (spiders have 8 legs), that may narrow down the search a bit ;)

Hi Bertil, You were really lucky to see the wildlife. Wonderful holidays! The water lizard in the beginning, is it dangerous? I mean, would it bite you if you met is swimming? Have a nice evening, Hermann

Thanks Hermann! The lizards are not dangerous in the sense that they don't hunt humans. But if you come too close or step on them they will of course bite. I haven't seen them swimming in the sea so the chance of meeting them while swimming is very small. You don't go swimming the the channels and rivers you see in this film. We were told by hotel staff that a guest at the hotel had tried to feed one of the lizards and got bitten in the hand. So don't feed them. Termsak Suknakha I just arrived to Gothenburg after two weeks in Greece. The under water scenes are captured just a few hundred meters south of Laguna Resort in Khao Lak.
