In the center of Kharkov there is a place where people literally walk on human bones - this is the Youth Park. In the place of the park there was the 1st city cemetery, originally called Ioanno-Useknovensky. Until the beginning of the 20th century, it was considered the coolest in Kharkiv - academicians Bagalei and Beketov, artist Vasilkovsky and artist Kropivnitsky, Professor Bokarius and public figure Khristina Alchevskaya were buried there. After the war, the burial places of famous Kharkiv residents were formally taken under state protection, and the the cemetery was closed - and actually abandoned.
In 1970, they decided to raze the place that had become "evil" to the ground. When the city authorities decided that the cemetery was finished, a recreation area was calmly laid out in its place ...
A complete, detailed history of this place (and believe me, it is very interesting) in this video!
