Man, this brings back memories. When my family moved back to Phelan in like 1989, no cable and took about a year before my parents broke down and bought a satellite dish. Channel 64 was pretty much the only channel our antenna picked up.

Same here! Every once in a blue moon Fox or even KTLA would come in, but that was only in the right weather and if the antenna was turned in the proper direction. Otherwise, yeah, it was just channel 64.

Thanks for posting. What a great man! I'm still drinking Ovalteen in my "Senior years". It's better than FDA drugs!

Watching this with the commercials is a trip. It's crazy how hard that Chinese restaurant leaned into the stereotypes for their commercial. That wouldn't quite work today unless they did it as a kind of joke. Coincidentally, the spot where Imperial Dynasty used to be is now a Korean BBQ restaurant.

Great interview. As a kid, Capt. Midnight was my first hero type. God bless this mans memory

I loved Jet Jackson as a kid here in Australia, especially the opening. . I cannot believe there is this interview with Richard Webb. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for loading this. I have an interview David Lyle did with Richard and Sid Melton about the same time for the short Aussie doco series "Golden Years of Television" - hope to upload it one day.

Captain Midnight as in the TV signal pirate? Did Max Headroom appear on this show as well?

Never could get my parents to buy Ovaltine...grrrr....seriously though it was a real blast to see this...did it ever bring back memories.

Hey Sam. Even Richard Webb hated the taste of Ovaltine and to the chagrin of the sponsors refused to drink it when advertising it on TV.

ya know that was so typical of those times...takin' the $$$ an goin on about ur business...don't know how true it was but someone spotted Groucho driving something other than a DeSoto back in the day of his show (sponsored by who else right) an he said (something to the effect) I drive DeSoto's when I'm working but drive WHAT I WANT TO ON WEEKENDS.
