Yes, Centerpoint has their responsibility to trim trees entangled in power lines and they may have dropped that ball in a lot of instances but why is the property owner allowed to plant trees under and alongside power lines? And why is the property owner allowed to grow trees that are oversized and not regularly maintained to withstand high winds and heavy rain? everyone commenting here, and the reporters trying to make a bigger story out of this than it is are ALL missing the point... the reason this keeps happening is because too many damned people have moved into the area. In the mid 80's there was no one living on the west end of Galveston Island except for a couple of isolated communities (Jamaica Beach, Pirates Beach) - now it is 100% filled with beach houses. The city of Houston was less than half of what it is now. The communities on the outskirts - there were like 14 5A sized high schools (with the sized neighborhoods to support that, and further out it was 4A and 3A high schools in towns. Now the outskirts have like 38 5A or 6A schools, and all of the 4A and 3A have become 5A. In other words, the population has exploded. So when a storm comes through, and hits an area that would have affected 600,000 people in the mid to late 80's, now if it comes through the same area of town it affects 3,000,000 people. It has nothing to do with preparedness, or it being "someone's fault" or any other such nonsense. And it definitely has nothing to do with "climate change". If you put more people along coastal areas or along rivers, then you are putting more people in harm's way - in flood zones or zones that hurricanes will directly affect. Not a damn thing can be done about that to prevent it, the only thing that can be done is on an individual level, you can make your own preparations (have a generator, supplies, etc... be ready to take care of yourself, stop depending on the "authorities" to bail you out), or if you don't like all of that, move out of the area

Change regulations about allowing trees to grow over. Out of state, it is a law to cut trees that grow around poles and wires. Residents and businesses usually get letters if they let this happen.

My thoughts for those living in Houston , ask your local leaders to make aware cooling centers for elderly people , they need Help before all , second help each other with limbs and debree , leave the major tree downing to tree services . For your own home have prepared a box fan for each main room and one small window ac unit you can use for the center of the home . One 3500 generator will qualify for emergency usage to keep a fridge , a 5000 btu ac window unit and a few other devices ..The gulf coast is at our back door , it will always destruct lives .

There are people STILL without power. At least two of my coworkers are still living in their cars so they have a/c and their phones. Centerpoint is, by far, the worst electric service in the country. It should've ALL been fixed by now. Not a single excuse will make me be okay with how terrible you guys are at repairing things. They don't even assess the most damaged areas to fix first, they just go wherever they want instead of prioritizing literally anything. They need to be shut down completely in all of Houston and need to bring in a company that can actually do their job.

Stop trying to blame someone! It is not CenterPoints fault .

I don't understand how some people mad at centerpoint for taking long. I have been without power since day one, but I do understand it is NOT an easy job to restore power to 2+ million people in just 1..2..3.. days.. I'm not a Lineman worker, but I am an electrician and this task is NOT easy to accomplish that fast.
@marisolrubio6923Ай бұрын
They should of been prepared when they announced a hurricane will come 1 week ago. Also they have horrible communication. We lost power in June because they were fixing our power pole and they took 6 days to bring back our power! It wasn't even a hurricane that hit us It was just a electrical repair.

The power company did NOT send the hurricane there are only so many repair trucks and instead of complaining you should be Thanking God you are still alive I saw some of the posts and I saw some of the news reports some people think they should be given money or electric credits or a check for their food going bad next time be smart enough to pick dry foods to store but dam man give the power companies a break

You’ll need to look at who is doing the tree clearing , is it being put on emergency responders like during hurricane Ike ,a huge influx of out of town companies were given work on these major tree downings . Is Centerpoint bringing that work in-house for profit ? Slowing restoration of power ?

Right. Not possible with the forecasted rain this next week. Also there is news from KPRC that work has been halted because the linemen and Centerpoint can't agree on payment. This will go on for 1-2more weeks

@@346azul it was raining Thursday afternoon around central Houston and Friday at noon for another couple hours. The north Houston still has big dark areas. Another rain forecasted for this Saturday also. It usually takes longer to restart the work and these guys probably started to get tired too. I do really hope to get power soon as it’s been out since Monday at 6:30ish, but it doesn’t look good

Get prepared, people. The time is NOW! The government is not going to help you, it is up to YOU! Get yourself a medium-sized generator that will run a window-unit A/C. Keep a decent supply of gas on hand (10 gallons would last 3 days running generator sparingly). Also, have generator and space heater ready for the next ICE STORM (remember that? Did you PREPARE after that nightmare?)
