I don't know but maybe part of the reason they picked Connery was because they were trying to stay true to the source material and he had a Scottish lilt to his voice (apparently, the main thing was that even with his size, he "moved like a panther").

I haven't seen a Bond movie in its entirety since "Tomorrow Never Dies" with Pierce Brosnan. I was also a big fan of Roger Moore, who was especially brilliant in films like "The Spy Who Loved Me", "The Man with the Golden Gun", and "Moonraker". To me, Cavill embodies the spirit of Roger Moore and, ultimately, James Bond . I read that Cavill was a finalist for the role almost two decades ago and performed brilliantly during his audition. Cavill was passed over for Craig solely because he was "too young" at the time. Well, now that he is older and has the experience of several blockbusters under his belt ("Man of Steel", "Mission Impossible"), he's ready. I would go back to the theater to see Cavill as 007.

When I saw Pierce Brosnan in Remington Steele I said he was the perfect Bond. I grew up watching Roger Moore and loved him as Bond. Henry Caville was my choice a few years ago already. Was never mad about Daniel Craig. Bond is meant to be suave, humerous, (Moore and 'Q') and the movie itself full of action and ever so 'slightly' unrealistic. Perfect escapism.

I USE to think Henry would have been the best Bond too!… 🤦‍♂️ He seemed made for the role and was impressive in the Man from U.N.C.L.E movie… However, after watching ‘Argylle’, I literally think he’d be the worst choice of the few known names that are supposedly shortlisted for the new Bond Film! He has mentioned either in an interview for video or film magazine? that he actually went and talked to the producers of the Bond movies, and that they didn't feel he was the right fit for them. So he did do the whole 007 audition thing. Pitty as he obviously is the choice for the new Bond.

Seriously if they don’t give Henry Cavill the part of James Bond, after waiting nearly 20 years to be given the part after being turned down when he was 22 years old for being told then he was too young to play the role, he should be given the chance now to play the role as he would make a fantastic James Bond, better than Craig was and he was born to play the part. In 2006, in the audition for Casino Royale, Cavill was told he was "too young" to be Bond, now he (40y) says himself "I might be too old" :) Looks perfect to me!

Sir Sean Connery, mastered the roll and to this day is my favorite. Many great actors followed, but I believe Henry Cavill, would fit the roll as well as Sir Connery did. For an actor, it's a major undertaking, I'm sure the franchise will look for a long-term commitment. He is in high demand and is working on several rolls now. As a producer he would be my choice $$. Sorry Aaron, he would blow you away at the box office. Henry, if offered, I say, Grab it. I'll do Q. and supply the toys. LOL!

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is a relatively unknown actor. I think that’s a good formula for Bond. Though Cavil is well known, he could never be a wrong or bad choice either.
