Demonstration of Ki Power (Chi Power / Qi-gong)
Features spectacular 1960s footage of Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969), the founder of aikido! It shows shots of O-Sensei performing in his later years when his technique was even more refined. It contains shots of O-sensei teaching and demonstrating and much more! His perfect circular movements and execution of techniques bring his opponents into his dynamic sphere where they are tossed about effortlessly.

You see a drop of water, but you fail to see the ocean from which it came! The art is much deeper than a handful of techniques you saw demonstrated here!

In his final years this guy believed in and demonstrated "chi" projection--submitting opponents without even touching them. Demo videos exist showing him launching and throwing around his students using his "chi". It's always amazing what these guys can do in demos.

if you control your center perfectly you can do. You don't need power and muscles. I'm sure that you can easily take up a chair if you grab it in correct position, but if you grab another part of the same chair it becomes heavy to move up.

Come on People! all Fighting arts are that! ARTS that have been trainned in and handed down over the period of time as we all know. But the main thing is that we all started to learn an art of some kind for what ever reason!... But remember we are all Brothers & Sister in the arts & most inportant we are of the Human Race.... yes! we all have diffrent skill levels but the main thing is that we all should keep an open mind to teaching & learning for we much keep trainning so our arts stay a live.

I appreciate your comment bender. You obviously are able to differentiate drills intended for concept exploration from applicable techniques. Many commentators here, however, do not. May I ask your opinion as to Ueshiba's abilities?

Ah yes, we don't understand what we cannot comprehand... flawless logic. Oh my god - you have expirience in ALL mods - including the famed 6 attackers?! You combined grappling with sparring???! Then I must bow to you superior understanding in all things incomprehensible... Hopefully one day I'll somehow gain a glimpse of the wizdom that lies beneath the "outer surface level of the martial arts".

@kumastomps If I read correctly then I am not disagreeing. If you have trained correctly then you wouldn't be challenging people over such issues. You should learn to read more carefully because that is what I am stateing about Aikido.

8:32 - 6 younger men grab ueshiba. 4 seconds later, they all fall down. Do anyone here honestly believe they tried as hard as they possibly could to resist him? To me it looks like a severe case of masterities.

@socksumi But what is "pure form"? I heard a story about a boxer challenging an Aikido sensei. They both signed a contract in case one woud get hurt. The boxer then charged to the Aikidoka and the Aikidoka exploited the boxer's weakness, his legs. Just at the moment the boxer would hit him, he duck and the muscled man stumbled over the Aikidoka, breaking his both legs, with his own momentum. I'm not saying Aikido would beat MMA, I'm saying a real master can adjust to the situation with Aikido.

@socksumi You are right, a story is a story and I never said I really do believe the story I just told. Anyhow, I just want to say that MMA is not necessarily better than Aikido. It all depends on the person, if you understand what I mean. Sure, a lot of Sensei would be beaten by an MMA fighter, but I can think of at least 1 in Belgium who would stand a chance. Aziz Belhassane is his name. :-)

@socksumi
@socksumi 13 жыл бұрын
@Tibokio Please cast skepticism on what you hear. If something rare like this happened, surely it would have been recorded. I've never seen any combative matches by any high level Aikidoka---all I see are demos and all I here are claims. I too heard claims--like one that Rickson Gracie submitted a high level aikido practitioner very quickly during a demonstration in Japan, but again---it's a story with sketchy details and no video evidence.

Yes i can break your wrist, elbow or shoulder before youve even hit the ground! But thats not the point and would/should be avoided if possible! BJJ is only half an art! Its is judo, which was jujutsu thats been modified for sport use & had most of the dangerous techniques removed! Its not hard to have you screaming whilst still on your feet! Aiki is a more zen/spritual approach to Jujutsu, using minimalised techniques/movement, but the JJ background is still there if needed! Trust me it works!

@sweetsweatyfeet

Bones broken?, that's the theory. In practice nobody can grab your wrist and break it so quick except in Steven Seagal movies. That's just wishful thinking. You need to first get into a dominant position (on the ground) before you can pull off a submission against anyone who can halfway fight. Anyone who practices BJJ knows that.

It is most unfortunate that people like yourself are unlikely to ever understand the true meaning of Aiki! However it is never to late to remove the vail of ignorance! We are not interested in competition, nor are we allowed to use many of our techniques in competition due to the governing rules! This was a waring art developed over many centuries, to do one thing & its devistatingly effective when used so! Aiki is the spiritual advancement of Jujutsu! I myself do many arts including Aikijutsu!

"We are not interested in competition" "aikido is "devistatingly effective" Devastating, compared to what? If aikidokas refuse to compete how do you know how effective aikido is against someone else's skills or art. "spiritual advancement" Spiritual, to me that means mystical. You might as well be talking religion. At that point I must bow out as I don't share the faith. The credibility of aikido will continue to be in doubt until it proves itself in the arena of civilized competition.
@socksumi
@socksumi 13 жыл бұрын
@Metalbob011 I disagree. Aikido masters have never demonstrated aikido's superior effectiveness over a truly great MMA fighter. My prediction is exactly the opposite. The best MMA fighters would pulverize any top rank pure form aikido practitioner you can name---probably in seconds. I challenge any aikidoka to prove otherwise (yes I know they don't compete--how convenient for them). My intention is not to disrespect the art. Only that it's effectiveness is greatly exaggerated.

@Metalbob011 You obviously have not trained for a long time nor do you know a lot about Aikido. MMA is a sport and that's it. Please, take me to the ground so i can gouge your eyes, bite and do what is illegal in a sport. Just because you see videos of Aikido artists doing kata, does not mean they are not good strikers, grapplers or combat technicians. What is demonstrated in these videos is an art and is Kata. What you need to do, is go train somewhere for 10 years and then reflect.

Bro I know your love for Jedi movies and Steven Seagal has corrupted your logical ability to debate. I too like movies but what you just said was that after practicing Aikido for ten paying years you will then know other Martial Arts that are effective. You see the flaw in the logic yet?
@Metalbob011
@Metalbob011 13 жыл бұрын
MMA will fail in combat. Aikido and many other arts are designed for military or war. This is what people forget between sport and warrior arts. In the battle field or streets you don't wear gloves and anything can be used if nessary to surive. In a ring you have to know the rules and it would not be the place for some arts. Watch the "UFC fighters experience Marine Corps Martial Arts"

Look up the definition of Mysticism. It subsumes the very category of spiritualism you speak of. But I am not about to tell you what to believe. You have every right to enjoy your "higher level" but you are mistaken if you think it is the product of thinking. For me reason and empirical evidence is the product of critical thinking. Maybe one day we will see an aikido expert in MMA competition. It will be worth celebrating as evidence will be at work to silence one side or the other.

Why should i have to compete and hurt someone just to make you believe that our art, which was developed from almost a mellenia of warring on battlefields can actually hurt someone? We have nothing to prove! Aiki isnt all about EGO training, its a way of life (not a religion)! By stating that spiritual means mystical to you, just highlights your incapacity to think at a higher level! To enhance ones spiritual state of mind & being is not mystical & not nessesarily religious! Are monks mystical?

Then it is obvious to me that you don't have a real fighting expirience - my point being that even a phenomenal martial artist cannot overcome six resisting oppenents. ESPECIALY in a grappling situation. Overcoming one opponent who is bigger and stronger is near-magical in itself. Believing this vid is completele real is wishfull thinking I'm sorry to say.
@sweetsweatyfeet

When you end up the ground, (and you will against a decent BJJ or wrestler), does aikido teach you what to do? You aikido guys are tall on claims but short on proof. You mention BJJ as half an art. Well, it is NOT an art at all but more of a science and a far more effective one than aikido. At least BJJ has proven itself competitively whereas aikido has not since aikidokas won't compete. How convenient, it allows guys like you to claim with impunity what devastating fighters you are.
