Kia Sportage 2013 Sunroof Repair and roof rail removal.

Just did a repair on my Kia Sportage sunroof as it would not open, so it turned out to be the bracket that was the runner that had a missing rubber guide.
So, I bought two guides, one for each side just in case and whilst it was stripped down, it was easier to do both.
So we did that and then cleaned everything out from all the old dead leaves and rubbish gathering in the roof rail.

Many thanks for your guide. I recently bought a Sportage with a "non-working" sunroof. It just jumped a bit, then stopped and would only move a bit with help! Your guide helped me to clear the crud, apply some WD40 to get moving a bit more, then silicone grease the slides and afterwards. The more I use it, the better it gets. Thank you so much.

Thanks for taking the time to upload this video I need to take the roof rails off and send them for painting. My sun roof slow at opening guessing I need to clean all the muck from the runners. Great video I'm sure this as help out lots of kia sportage owners👍👍 you nailed it

Bro, many thanks for this video. I think you have just helped me out with a totally different problem in the sunroof area: The wire which helps open and close the sunroof curtain has become stuck in the pulley system. I think the only way to fix it is to remove the entire roof glass, and I think this is how I access the screws for it... Wish me luck!

I just had a problem with mine and so I filmed it. They seem to be afflicted by leaves and rubbish getting trapped and when you watch somebody doing this cleaning, it just makes it easier to follow. The hardest part was getting the covers out of the holes so we could get to the screws. Once we sorted that out, the rest was straight forward. Most people will only need to take the roof bars off to get to all the grime and give it a good rinsing out, so it should be an easy and straight forward job. Mine wasn't opening, and when the bracket is out, you can see the rubber is missing of it, so we replaced it and did the other side at the same time.

Did you ever manage to sort this? One of the blind wires has come loose in mine and basically hangs down. It stops the blind from pulling back. I’m not bothered about the blind doing the fast retract thing - I’m just wanting a simple way to open the blind manually and pull closed again - like the rear blind does… Can I just try to cut out / remove the cable wires on both sides or is this all pointless unless I can get full access from roof? Cheers

Thanks alot. I was looking for a way to remove the roof rails so I can spray paint them. They look old with UV damage on my car and i wasn't sure how to remove them without breaking anything. Thanks again for the details.

Absolutely! The paint on my rails has all peeled off and I wondered how to get them off for a repaint. Mine is a 2012 that only has 37,000 miles and I am striving to keep it looking new. Anyone have any ideas on how to clean up the headlights?

Great guide. Could you give the part number of the guides, as when cleaning the gutters on mine I noted one was cracked. Would also appreciate a hint as to where the drain holes are, because I couldn't find them.

Many thanks for this video, my Sportage have this same Issue, I just got it to the Dealer and they wanted $50 just to diagnose it, but I've done my homework and I better save those $50 to buy the WD40 and tools to do the job myself

Just had it all to bits and the roof had gone past it's open limit.. one of the oval guide thingies has broken none available except Germany so off home now to 3d print some wish me luck.. managed to reset the limits so just that little bit to make. I would not have got this far with out your jems of information.. thank you

Great video- i bought my sorento with a non working sunroof, i figured it may need sunroof motor replacement- fuses are all sound so i think it would be a motor issue- i have 0 noise or sound when pressing buttons. Neither does it move the roller blinds??? kia sorento GT line S

Could be the motor, the switch or a wiring fault. Need to test the wiring at the motor for power and go from there. Don’t know where abouts the motor is though

Thank you, this video is very helpful!! I have 2012 and the sunroof is leaking. The water is getting in through the front dome lights. Do you know where the sunroof drainage is located? Cant seem to find it?

So I bought a 2011 Sorento from a neighbor and it makes a noise in the moonroof area that is almost like clicking of metal parts? Any thoughts as to what that could be?

So you didn’t have to remove the headliner to deal with the roof rails? I’m trying to install some and would like to know.

We never touched the inside of the car at all. Everything was fine on the outside and I tried to put photos and videos showing every screw/bolt/clip ETC. When you remove the caps covering the holes on the roof rack, there are bolts sticking up, just unscrew the nuts of the bolts and then lift of the roof rails. I hope this helps 👍
