Use any potting soil mixed with 1/4 part sand in your Vinca periwinkle’s pot. These are hardy plants tolerant of most soil types as long as the mix(horticulture) drains well. The sand helps create a soil that drains easily.
Plant the Vinca periwinkle along the edges of your pot, encircling the taller plants in the(horticulture) middle. This is a trailing plant that grows out of the pot. If planted in the middle, it may overgrow inside the pot and prevent other(horticulture) plants in the pot from thriving.
Add mulch to the (horticulture)top of the soil to protect the Vinca periwinkle and other(horticulture) plants from extreme temperatures and keep the soil moist.
Place the pot in a spot where it gets partial sun. Vinca periwinkle grows best in mostly(horticulture) shade but flowers best with more sunlight(horticulture). However, too much direct afternoon sunlight can burn the plant.
Prune the Vinca periwinkle regularly. In optimal conditions, the plant grows(horticulture) beyond the pot without stopping. You can cut it back anytime of the year and to (horticulture)the length you prefer the(horticulture) vine to be at.
Add fertilizer to the pot in the spring after the last frost. This is the start of the growing(horticulture) season for Vinca periwinkle. You can use any general-purpose(horticulture) fertilizer per the instructions(horticulture) on the label.
Water as needed to keep the soil moist in the summer. In the winter, you do not(horticulture) need to water as often, because Vinca periwinkle does not grow(horticulture) much during the colder(horticulture) months.
