Awesome review mate and I’ll be going for the original model. You talked temps being around 22degC yet didn’t mention the glass in the door on the later model doubled that temp. And as I’m a pie lover, PLEASE take your pies out of their foil cups lol! Foil is an insulator- it does not get hot or transmit heat- your pies will always have a soggy base. Sit the pie on the wire rack out of it’s foil cup and you’ll have a pie with the pastry cooked properly without all of it’s meat escaping out the bottom onto your lap lol. 👌

I appreciate that comment; cooked a family apple pie the other day and sure enough it had a soggy base after cooking....I'll remember this hint next time. Cheers 🥂

I can’t agree with the external temps of 21° and 22° when the ambient was 25° though. I just took temp readings (oven temp is at 141°). Top was 34° and glass door 71°. And it’s still heating so yeah - no way the temps were less than ambient. When oven got to 181° the glass door was 90° and the latch too hot to touch. Top was 37° and sides about 34° Took 100mins to get to 180° used 18.84Ah (0.14kWh). Max power 159.2W and 12.06A max.

Great review man. You helped me choose. I went with the new glass door as I just do long road hauls and light duty offroad. Cheers 🤙🏽

Glad to hear mate. Both have their advantages, but personally the glass door definitely wins out! Thanks for the feedback

No worries mate, they're definitely not something I use a lot every trip, but very convenient to have and help to expand what you're able to cook while away. Best benefit I found was being able to easily reheat a meal or cook something while I'm travelling

Awesome review mate. The content in the review was awesome I watched a few reviews and they just talk about how good it is haha nothing about how long its going to take and temperatures etc. appreciate the effort mate

Nice review mate. I have the older style kickass oven and it’s been a winner for about 18 months. I did have 1 issue literally a week out of warranty and that was to do with the fuse holder that is near the Anderson plug. It actually melted on me but I don’t blame the oven or kickass. Believe fuseholder got stuck between third row seat and box I made for oven. Now it’s hard wired to fuse block and going great guns. New model is interesting but still think even with glass front you would still open door to see if food is cooked. Thanks again for video mate

Cheers mate! Yeah I'm not a fan of the inline fuse for that reason. I'm going to replace mine with a midi fuse and put a t handle on the Anderson plug. To the fuse block would handy. I move mine around a bit, otherwise that would be the go. The glass door is great, but you're right, definitely still open it. Cooked some chicken the other day and had to check a couple of times. But it's great for pies, pizza and stuff that's obvious when it's ready.

@@rialed.ventures yeah I have my oven in a removal box (In back of 80 series). Box also contains step up converter, USB, cig sockets and a few spare Anderson plugs all connected to fuse block. I can remove box from cruiser when not needed and connect cable from aux directly to fridge which is Anderson plugged. Great oven and has saved me heaps with wife and 4 kids and Saturday sports as well as weekend\camp trips

Great review! Kickass made a mistake on their Fathers Day email so the original is going for $119 if you call them up, still $199 on the website. So absolute bargain!

Do you use it much? I see a lot of people swapping these out for air fryers !! due to the versatily

Only a couple of times each trip. It's handy if you're traveling and want something ready when you get there. Airfryer would be great if your system could handle the power requirements. It would definitely get hotter quicker and cook better than a 12v oven

Is the Max temp really only 140? Website reckons 180......

That's what mine got to after 2 hours. The battery was fully charged and kept on a 240v charger. Good chance that it may go higher with longer use, but in a 25 degree room, that's what mine got to

They really need 14v to get to 180 so you either need to be driving with an alternator boosting the voltage or use a solid state step up inverter when not driving, this will nearly halve preheat and cook times and result in higher temperatures. you can get one with a 14v output which better suits the Kickass or even a 15v output which better suits the travel buddy due to the lower wattage element, on 15v a travel buddy draws about 14amps on 15v when a kickass will draw closer to 17amps on 15v which will blow a fuse as the fuses are usually 15amp. ive been running a 15v step up on my TB and the difference in preheat, max temp and cook times are huge.

I’ve had the old oven and now have the new one. They do get to 180° as I’ve tested with a digital thermometer inside. Just tested the glass door one again now and got it to 181° (digital thermometer said 185° when I opened it). Took 100 mins. Glass was 90°, top 37°, sides 34°.
