I guess it’s all come full circle now! I was about 17 years old when I put together that Fusion Go video. Maybe I was a bit naïve at the time about all of the work that actually goes into making a games console… The voiceover in that video was done by a friend who went on to have a successful career in broadcast journalism, and I went on to have a successful career in another industry (not gaming!). It’s fun to look back though and have a good laugh. 😊 Cheers!

@@ExtremeWreck Under their controlled supervision these boards do work. But I guess that they have some inherent design flaws that prohibit commercial release, so it's more or less a toy project. you can whip the hw side of the prototype necessary for it by just buying a large touchscreen. the problem is actually making the games and getting the licenses and making it at a pricepoint people would buy it for. for doing the software one could've started with surface already. no not that ms surface, the original one that was a desk pc with large touchscreen that was the surface of the desk(only saw 1 ever irl, 13-15 years ago) anyway they should just port whatever unique games they have if they have to ipad pro.

Conceptually it's not a bad idea, maybe a bit of an iffy implementation. A "smart" board game could work, the touch screen might be a bit less than ideal but it does make it easy to incorporate multiple boards. Getting developers and licenseholders onboard would be exceptionally difficult though.

15:44 It's kinda funny hearing this stuff about Linux and Windows in hindsight, because this is exactly what the Steam Deck set out to do and succeeded at rather well (games with anti-cheat are still a problem, but that's more the fault of developers not updating their anti-cheat to support Linux/SteamOS). Steam Deck doesn't have red, white or blue Steam icons though, so Novatio has the advantage on that front.

@Kijinn
@Kijinn 11 ай бұрын
It's allowed because there's no law against gifting people money. Everyone that is using a crowdfunding page to support others is expected to thoroughly read the description and then make a responsible decision on whether they want to *give away* money, regardless of whether the project succeeds or not. That includes supporting projects that don't even give you any meaningful reward, for as long as the description informs you of that. There are plenty well meant projects where support without direct reward makes sense, e.g. people renovating publicly accessible buildings to help their immediate community. Kickstarter and similar institutions don't make the decision for you, on whether or not you just want to gift your money.

Do you ever think about how Gamer Archive was basically made obsolete by Retroarch- which basically just packages a bunch of emulators together and lets you play any of the classic games in your library on one "console", is controller-agnostic, and was released for *free*?

Got my IndieGo with an Odroid inside. Never really got around to fully setting it up. I think most of the folks that finally got it the instructions around the OS and the constant changes BEFORE we even received the devices didn't remotely make it clear how to get everything up and running. Instead I just used mine as an Android box for awhile.

21:50 The company Origin PC built such a machine a few years ago. It's called the Big O and it's a super expensive machine including a top of the line PC, a PS4 and and Xbox One. I think they iteratwd on this machine later on too.

Yeah it was $2500 with the power of a PS4 pro for the console side and a 3090 for the graphics card. I would rather a $2000 PC and a PS5 and get a better version of both. And the thing is so big it’s really just a PS4 attached to a PC so it’s not even saving space

16:09 Lol WUT? Steam Machines have the Steam Proton compatibility layer (which was actually Gabe's first failed attempt to push Linux gaming, _not_ Steam Machine) to run Windows games, just like Steam Deck. The problem with Steam Machine is that it's unnecessary. The Steam Deck succeeded where it failed because it's portable.

For the console case's video pitch, did anyone else notice that the fan would suddenly go silent whenever the guy spoke? That can only mean four possible things; 1. The fan sound was added in post, but the guy didn't want it to drown out his voice. 2. His voice was added in post, but again, didn't want the fan to drown out his voice. 3. He kept turning off the fan whenever he spoke. 4. The fan was a shoddy piece of junk that was on it's last legs. Of course if it was options 1 or 2, it means he has no idea what audio balancing is.

The Steam Machines came out in 2015 and Proton wasn't released until 2018, so there was a pretty big gap. You could still run a lot of games using WINE, which was what Proton was developed from, or just install Windows on them though.

There are two of these that would have really appealed to me if they had actually been real: The OmegaOne: I love the idea of a really large interactive touchscreen board game. Even better, it could play multiple different board games. It really sucks that this one was fake. The EmoSpark: As somebody who struggles with emotional challenges such as depression and anxiety, a device which interacts with me in this way would be a godsend. I’m heartbroken to hear that this campaign ended in disaster. In the end, I’m glad I didn’t hear about either of these, as I probably would have backed them. Wonderful video, DJ Slope. Thanks, as always, for your wonderful content.

You know, from Goodwill I have to think that a lot of these consoles are donated by people that didn’t know what they were worth, didn’t know to (or how to) wipe their profiles off, or didn’t know to trade them in for new stuff. I bet a lot of them came from people that died.
