Folk Hero or Outlaw? "Kid Curry is best known for his association with Butch Cassidy, Sundance Kid, and the Wild Bunch. He has been portrayed on screen as a violent psychopath or a friendly bad-man. The true story of the life and death of Harvey Logan, alias Kid Curry, is inevitably more complex and fascinating than the versions that have appeared on screen or in popular histories."

Great video, refreshing new style, historian Mike Bell does a thorough job, a viewer almost the idea that he knew Kid Curry. Very complete, loved it, thanks to the Wild West History Association for this! Kurt House

Two pistols have been sold at auction in recent years purported to be those that belonged to Kid Curry. A gun purportedly recovered from Logan's body by Deputy Fred Carlson, a member of the posse, was identified by serial number as the 1892 Colt revolver Logan reportedly stole from a gun dealer travelling on the train held up in the 1899 Wilcox Wyoming robbery - this gun was auctioned off in 2021 for $62,812. A 1873 Colt that Logan purportedly gave to a cooperative express car clerk as a souvenir(!) during the July 1901 train robbery near Wagner (Malta) Montana was up for auction in 2014, listed as worth between $50,000-75,000.

I dunno what it is specifically about Harvey Logan, but I've always seen him as the quintessential "Outlaw" of the Wild West. I think it is because he was involved in everything - robberies, gun fights, etc - but unlike those bigger names we always hear about, his name stayed a little more under the radar. Sure, it only takes a little bit of reading on the subject to discover Kid Curry, but he was no Jesse James or even Butch Cassidy. Nevertheless, his outlaw story would be enough to fill a Hollywood blockbuster on its own and, for some reason, in my mind that gives him real authenticity. Not saying Jesse James, Butch, etc are not authentic outlaws, they obviously were, but you assume their names are well-known due their exploits and therefore there cannot have been many more like them. Its clearly an incorrect assumption as Kid Curry is just 1 example of an out & out outlaw whose name did not echo through the ages despite his exploits. The difference then is in the publicity, and I think that is why someone like Kid Curry interests me as he did not seem to seek nor attract the same publicity as some of his contemporaries.

The reason why Kid Curry on Alias Smith and Jones didn't resemble Harvey Logan, was because the TV series was made to cash in on the popularity of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Ben Murphy, a Paul Newman look alike, was playing Redford's Sundance. Pete Duel was doing Newman's Butch. I agree that it was Logan that was the killed in Colorado. The mustache had been shaved, for obvious reasons, but the shield-shaped face, the shape of the eyebrows and ears, scream Logan. The hair had thinned more since the Ft. Worth photo, the nose had caved a bit, but it was him right down to the hat style. I disagree in that I do think that he did pretty much most of what he was accused of. He seemed to take it all so personally.

2:52 First off, Hannibal Hayes was a real man, he's my Great Great Great Grandfather on my Dad's Moms side. He fought in the Civil War in Company A. Of the 25th Indiana Infantry. Look up service records for the 25th Indiana and his name will pop up. Now, I agree he most definitely never rode with Kid Curry. I can't find any records of any crimes he committed etc. But the man was real. Main Question is this, how did the people who made the TV Show scrounge up my relatives name to use in the show? What made them Choose Him? Hope you see this, Cheers Mate!

I love ( hate) the ":Folk Hero " label to sociopaths. My grandfathers were born in 1876 and 1870, and there references, which were few to " cowboys" and " Outlaws" were short: Cowboys were " oddballs..." And Outlaws were " Scum". As they were alive during the era, I'll go with their assessment.
