During one of his European tours veteran trombonist Kid Ory (1886-1973) and his New Orleans Jazz Band played the famous Salle Pleyel in Paris on October 4, 1959. Here they play "Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans" in which Ory sings the vocal and in the final line he mentions that he misses most the ones he cares for.
Several months ago I received a youtube message from Kid Ory's daughter Babette who had seen some of my other Ory postings. She was born in the early fifties and would often accompany her dad on tours. Obviously in this concert she stayed home and the final line in the vocal makes a lot of sense. This clip is therefore dedicated to you Babette.
Members in the band are Henry Red Allen on trumpet, Bob McCracken clarinet. Cedric Haywood piano, William Girsback bass and Alton Redd drums
