A quick How-to / DIY repair of a 16-inch kid's bike. Ended up getting a donor bike and used some of the parts. All in an effort to make a little girl happy.
Fix it yourself and keep these out of the landfill before their time.
Send something to the channel.

Great video I needed to remove the sprocket from a similar children’s bike and I had no idea how to since every other video had a bike with just one hex but you would remove and the whole thing just came apart, very helpful.

Sorry for the delay. The Video on the 25 will explain why it has taken so long. But on to your question. I do not have that bike any more but will try to acquire another one and take it down further. Not sure how fast I can pull it off but I will try. Thanks for watching.

Wow. I really missed this comment 7 months ago. Sorry about that. The binding came to be too much of a misalignment on with the spacers. I found a different crank and replaced it. I should of worked out if I only had to use one spacer. the second spacer was what did it. It is still rolling around the neighborhood. Thanks for watching

@@5LakesGarage it may have been easyer to buy a bike body and set it up as then i will know it will not break easy as i will only pick the best part not some cheap metal or i hope it was cheap is how it broke so easy when was not use much

@5LakesGarage

Sounds like the side adjusters are too tight. Or there is an issue with the races. (Location where the bearings ride. Some bikes have removable races and others not. I would just start with loosing the retainers. Thanks for watching and good luck.

Would the opposite be true. Got my kid a bike and there is about a quarter turn worth of play before it catches and allows it to move. It very hard to get him to ride it cause there isn't a lot of room for him to get the momentum needed to keep the pedals going?

I bought my 4 year old son a new bike (14") with back pedal brake... I noticed it is a little bit hard to pedal, what could be the problem?
@5LakesGarage
@5LakesGarage 2 жыл бұрын
To figure out where the binding would be, there are 3 different locations. 1. Crank 2. Chain 3. Rear brake I would take the chain off and try to isolate the bind. My guess would be the Rear brake. Since it is new, the brake will loosen and smooth out.
@goran1986m
@goran1986m 2 жыл бұрын
@@5LakesGarage my guess is that it is something with the crank...because when i lift the bike and hit the pedals hard, so that the rear wheel would spin fast... I make i few slow turns with the pedals while the rear wheel is still spinning fast, and it is still kind of hard to turn them. I hope you understand what i'm trying to say...

i was hoping to have seen the actual process of taking the crank off.... i have been searching youtube all day to find how to remove the crank. and all i see is you talking about how youre gonna take it off, then skip right to a completely empty crank shaft.... with no details of how you took it apart. sadly this isnt helpful to someone who has never removed a crank before.

@@5LakesGarage is there any tips you could provide that might help? i have a 12 inch kids bike and the pedal crank seems to be giving me resistance when pedaling. what could cause that??
@5LakesGarage
@5LakesGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Could be a few things. if all of the resistance is in the crank it could be a few things. 1. the preload is too much. (loosen the nuts a bit) 2. the retainers are worn which causes the bearings to bind 3. trash in the bears. I was just in the shop this evening. I should have enough parts to put a kids bike together. I could try to do a little more detailed video and post it. Hopefully this helps.
