Today I am sharing what our kids' chore routine looks like- as well as how we handle allowance in our home. We are a large family of 10 and it takes quite a bit of work to keep our home picked up and tidy with such a big family.

this is random but i wish you was my mom growing up. im 24 so its too late lol but i grew up in foster and group homes, got exposed to neglect and abuse at a early age. and i grew up thinking no one really cares. its really comforting to know there is people like you who stand up and support this group. that means so much. it just shows your heart. ok ted talk done. just thanks! u know what im talking about. thanks for caring

Much love to you sweet lady. 💜 I'm so sorry for the heartache you experienced.. The Lord turns things around that the devil meant to destroy us with. You can become the mother you always would have wanted in your own life to someone else and that can bring healing to your heart over time. "When my mother and father forsake me, then the Lord will take me up." Psalm 27:10

Same! I ended up being adopted but the family who adopted me was not a good home at all very emotionally and mentally abusive. Its like I went from 1 hell hole to another. I am so happy when I see its not always like the experience I had. I have lived in many many fosters home and none of them were great.

We never got allowances as kids, we all contributed to the household chores just because we lived there.. Don’t get me wrong, my siblings and I never went without, if we wanted something all we had to do is ask (within reason, no £300 games consoles just because) but we never had the constant allowance to buy random crap when we wanted to. I’m one of 4 and my friends who were only children didn’t have to do chores and got an allowance.. it was always crazy to me!

I love the idea of not really giving them money and yes I believe that every member of the family should contribute in some way in the best whys they can and you are right you should make it fun or they will hate doing chores

My mother approached chores in a very negative way that made myself and my siblings hate housework. When I moved out and was cleaning my home without the nagging, I realised I didn't mind cleaning at all. I am trying to not repeat this mistake and work on being Mary Poppins when it comes to chores with the kids. I fail pretty darn often, but I will try to work on this particularly while the kids are home from school for the next week thanks to the coronavirus. Fingers crossed I can stay the course!

This is such great advice. I’ve never liked the idea of an allowance. When they grow up they aren’t going to get money for scrubbing their own toilet LOL totally implementing some sort of fruit of the spirit practice! Thank you so much!!!

How nice it is to have a video from my favorite family to begin my day. Thank you for all the work that you put into this channel. It means a lot. Also, your family truly showed me that adoption is an option to be a parent. I may not be able to carry a full term pregnancy. Thanks to you, I’m thinking about adoption. Thank you doesn’t begin to cover how grateful I am to you and the wonderful information you share. God bless you and your family.🤗

Love that the system isn’t super rigid but still includes chores, fruits if the spirit, and earning. The once a month is so much easier than once a week. So glad you made this video, especially now that our public school kids will be joining the homeschooled kids at home for the next three weeks😬🙏special prayers for all the mamas during this crazy virus junk!

During the week the kids have after school activities so my main focus is eating dinner together. Then I need their packback and clothes laid out for school the next day and showered. They help clean their bathroom or wash dishes Monday through Thursday on school nights. Friday through Sunday they have to clean their room and wash their clothes to be ready for the week. Their dad and me do our bathroom, clean our room, our laundry on the weekend also. My adhd ocd calm area is our open concept kitchen/living room/breaksfast that has to be decluttered and cleaned every night. I setup our breaksfast, lunch, snacks and coffee for the next work day. On the weekend we have to do yard work as a family like every other weekend. This split up system has worked so well because most of the time we are at work.

Great video! The laundry part - I only have half the children that you do but I really struggled for ages with the putting away side, I always washed regularly but I hated putting away and folding, in 2016 after a super big declutter we got rid of all of our dressers and still to this day if its not socks or underwear (which are kept in a basket in the bottom of wardrobe) its hung up in their/our wardrobes, from (PJs, school uniform, singlets galore) now it goes straight from the washing machine wet (we dont use our dryer unless its winter)onto a hanger then once dry transferred to their shared wardrobes, this has been the biggest life saver and time saver! *Like life changing* , i Thought I would share if there's other mums/parents struggling with Washing

Cleaning tips that you never asked for but might help the girls. Always clean top to bottom, vinegar stinks but is your best friend if you mix it with an essential oil you barely smell it. Dish soap is great, micro fiber cloths are magic! The only part of the house imo that really needs disinfecting is the toilet. Dont be afraid to use reusable cloths on the toilet just run a load of hot water and some lysol disinfecting wash. I used to clean homes professionally and hotel rooms ive used all the fancy brand name , commercial and natural cleaners but nothing beats dish soap and vinegar. Obviously when i cleaned residential homes and hotels i used the chemicals requested by the home owners and regulated by the hotel. But at my own home ive found those tend to be unnecessary. Fun video tfs.

The twins could learn to help match socks or to sort spoons and forks into the silverware drawer. They could help put all plastic bottles and cups in one place for putting away. If you make it a game they would enjoy it. Another thing could be if you have an outside table to clean, spray it with shaving cream and let the twins or the younger kids fingerpaint. Hose it down when done, table is all clean. 😄

I didn't get an allowance as a kid either. We lived on a farm and it was expected that you help out and when (within reason) you wanted something or wanted to do something, mom & dad would provide. There were a lot of "no's" but it made me appreciate what extras I did get from them. For my small kiddos, it takes a while for saving up and I would always forget what they had completed. I also didn't like the idea of money sitting around in jars. So I came up with a punch card system. I have a little drawer set up with my star and heart punches and then have each child's deck of chore cards on a notecard ring. There are "expected of you" chores and "money earning chores". The earning money chores are meant to nurture a good work ethic and consist of chores that my kids can do, but I don't expect them to do just yet. I've set monetary values for a full card. My oldest has asked me twice today what chores she can do on this day #2 of social isolation.

Plus sorting, there's a lot to it and i like it done a certain way. But my kids can help with folding their specific clothes or towels/random stuff. And can help with switching and so forth. i also did not get an allowance growing up. i was extremely angry about having to do things that my friends did get paid for. also i was raised by my Grandmother who was retired so she didnt get income taxes either so i would wind up being the only kid that didnt get new things around spring break time. but i have made a vow to myself that when the time comes that the Lord blesses me with a child that i am going to find a fair way for them to earn things, and i think this sounds as close to perfect as you could get.

I dealt with jealousy as a kid of my friends who got allowance too. But as an adult- I see why my parents did things the way they did. I’m a very hard worker- and I think part of that is because of the way my parents raised me. I started working at 14 and took any job I could get. I had other friends who felt they were “too good” for certain jobs. 😂 I digress! Lol... but I do think if parents can afford to- then providing a way for kids to earn money and learn to spend/save/give responsibly is a great thing!

Hi, I’m new to your channel, Ive watched only one other video, (Sunday cleaning). Reason why I joined is because I wanted to get some tips as my 34 yr old daughter has 4 young kids, ages 8, 7, 3 and 2. We r waiting for dx of oldest who tentatively has ADHD, Possible autism and selective mutism. 7 yr old might have something too. 3 yr old is good, 2 yr old does have defective gene KAT6b gene. So a feeding problem and speech, learning disability so far. Fruit of the spirit coins is a great idea, I remember teaching that in Sunday school. Darn, we don’t have target here, Canada, just Walmart.

My son is nearly 6 and is so helpful around the house haha he doesn't have set chores (it's just me and him) but he pretty much always helps if he sees me doing jobs or if I ask and if he doesn't I don't really mind. As a kid we had set jobs and mum would leave us lists if we were home, we got pocket money until we got jobs but it was never for helping run the house.

I don't do allowance either, everybody contributes to the chores. However, the kids do earn money when they do jobs for Grandpa. Then we work on splitting the cash into giving, keep, and spend. Do you have a way you do that? I didn't get an allowance either. Dave Ramsey suggests allowances so they get used to handling money, but we haven't found it necessary since they earn money in different ways. I've tried systems like the token system to reward behavior but I'm never good at catching the good behavior. How often are you actually catching them? Or rather, how long did it take to get in the habit of catching them doing good behavior? One more question: how do you teach the kids to be thorough? I know you said, "Done is better than perfect" however, when do you work on getting them to do a good job? Is it just from the positive atmosphere you here? Thanks for sharing!

Have you tried feline pine cat litter? My youngest has asthma so we can’t use traditional cat litter. The pine is in pellets and I swear to you the litter boxes never smell! And we have 3 cats!!! It’s 10 bucks for a 20lb bag at target. It’s life changing! A nice pine smell instead of that icky smell of litter!

Teach your kids to clean up their own messes. Even the little ones. Sometimes they find it fun and relaxing.

My rule or goal for our house is, that it can't get so bad that a fast 5 minute pick up can't fix. We have a gate that has to be opened to get in our driveway. One of the kids will slowly walk down the driveway and open the gate, while the oldest and myself do a fast pick up and sweep up of the 3 main rooms. As long as the kitchen, living room and bathroom is clean for guests, that's all that matters to me. A couple times a week bedrooms get cleaned. After school each day the school room needs to be picked up. Then on Saturdays (after everyone is done with breakfast) each kid has a deep clean chore to do. We get the downstairs done in between breakfast and lunch, then the upstairs(bedrooms, toyroom and school room) after lunch. It seems a lot but if we keep up with it during the week, it really takes each kid 5 minutes per room. It takes me a little longer cuz my chores are ones that take longer (like sweep and mopping the floors). We don't pay to pick up after ourselves but we live on a small farm. So the way the kids get paid it doing outside, hard manual chores, like picking up the yard to mow, mowing, pulling weeds, feeding the animals, cleaning out barn, cleaning out the chicken coop, painting fence, milking the cows. Cuz seriously wiping down the cabinets or table isn't hard work but using a push mower on our hike hilly yard is lol. Now done with KZfaq and cleaning motivation, have to start our deep clean chores! Love seeing another large family's chore system, homeschooling system, and basically how other large families do it!!

I like the idea of paying my 12 year old for deep cleaning. How did you arrive at an amount to pay them? Is it by the hour, day, or task? Thank you!

It’s a flat fee for the tasks listed that day. 10-20 depending on how much they have to do. We don’t pay by the hour or people will drag things out to make more money 😂

Do your girls travel? I could use some help in Chicago 😉. Love your system of rewarding the kiddos as they show gifts of the spirit. Maybe my husband and I should do it for one another 😉.

When i was younger i barely did anything like clean my room etc, now i’m v independent, responsible and i’m more clean than any person in my house. To me it’s weird that some kids my age still get money for cleaning their room (i’m 16)
